"This book focuses on the subject of power system stability. The stability of a power system is referred to as its ability, for a given initial operating condition, to regain a state of operating equilibrium after being subjected to a physical disturbance (such as a short-circuit fault). In general, the stability of the power system depends on both its dynamic characteristics (i.e., how the system would behave in response to a disturbance) and steady-state operating condition (i.e., how the power system is dispatched). While the first approach involves dynamic modeling, stability analysis, and controller design, the latter two require advanced optimization methods to optimally operate (dispatch) the power system and determine the best size and site of such devices for maximum cost-effectiveness. The existing books on this subject are focused on the first approach with power system dynamic modeling, stability analysis, and controller design, while there are no books dedicated to the latter two approaches which are realized by advanced optimization.--
