    Description: We estimated domestic water consumption and sewerage discharge in each standard grid cell across the 44 municipalities in the Lake Kasumigaura watershed for 1995. Domestic water consumption ranged from-792 to +2, 354m /d; sewerage discharge ranged from-765 to +1, 949 m /d between the method in case that only nighttime population was considered and that both nighttime and daytime population was considered. Consideration of the daytime population was important in accurately modeling the hydrological cycle in the watershed.

    Description: 重力式砂防ダムは砂防地域で数多く建設されてきたが, 下流面を急勾配とする制約から堤体積が大きく, 経済性に劣り工期も長い。そこで, 上流端部をアンカーで固定し, 堤体積を小さくした安定性の高い半重力式ダムを提案した。半重力式ダムは堤体に発生する引張応力に対して補強する必要があり, 構造上, 通常の鉄筋コンクリートとしての応力計算の考え方では不明確な面がある。本設計法では堤体に加わる外力に対してダムの上流面勾配とアンカーカの最適な組合せを求め, FEM解析により本形式ダムの構造特性を明らかにした上で配筋計画を行った。
    Description: Many gravity check dams have been constructed in ground sliding areas. However gravity dams have proved, due to their large volume, not to be economical and moreover to need a long construction period. In this paper we propose a thin semi-gravity check dam, the stability of which is assured by anchors fixed on the upstream side as well as by reinforcements for tensile stress. Therefore, because of its thinness, this dam can be constructed more economically. This paper describes the design method of the semi-gravity check dam employing with anchors. In the design method, the most suitable upstream slope, as well as the tension in the anchors, were determined by usual stability calculation. In order to determine the stress distribution in the dam body, elastic analysis was carried out by two-dimensional finite element method. Eventually, as results from the analysis, we disposed the necessary reinforcement in the dam structure.

    Description: A synthetic model peptide, H-(Leu-Alα-Arg-Leu) 3 -(Leu-Arg-Alα-Leu) 3 -OH (4 6 ) can form ion channels in planar lipid bilayers by taking an amphipathic α-helix (Agawa, Y., Lee, S., Ono, S., Aoyagi H., Ohno, M., Taniguchi, T., Anzai, K. and Kirino, Y. (1991) J. Biol. Chem. 266, 20218–20222). For further study of ion channels formed by this type of peptides, we planned to synthesize [Trp 1 ]-4 6 (Ser) and [Trp 12 ]-4 6 (Ser) in which a hydrophilic amino acid, Ser, was introduced in several positions of 4 6 instead of hydrophobic ones. This modification was expected to decrease the ability of membrane perturbation and to simplify various current levels of the channel observed for 4 6 . Furthermore, additional Trp was introduced to the N-terminus or position 12 to monitor the lipid—peptide interaction. CD study showed that both peptides formed a random structure in buffer, but an α-helix in the presence of egg PC and a β-structure in egg PC/egg PG (3:1). Moreover, addition of NaCl to the acidic liposomes induced the conformational transition in the peptide from β-structure to α-helix. Salt-induced conformational transition in the presence of acidic liposomes was discussed in terms of membrane binding and ion-channel formation in planar lipid bilayer. Despite introduction of hydrophilic residues instead of hydrophobic residues in 4 6 , the peptide showed nearly the same dye-release ability from egg PC- egg PG liposomes as 4 6 . [Trp 12 ]-4 6 (Ser) was able to form cation-selective ion channels with two levels of conductance (mainly 250 and occasionally 125 pS) in asolectin planar lipid bilayer, suggesting that appropriate orientation of hydrophobic and hydrophilic residues in amphipathic peptide can simplify channel current levels.
