Description: With the aim of developing a new methodology of thermal investigations of heat-insulating structures and materials, the features of quasi-stationary heat conduction in a flat wall under varying ambient conditions have been considered. The quasi-stationary approximation errors and the applicability criteria of stationary relations between the thermal parameters of the medium imposing restrictions on the rate of change in boundary temperatures have been determined. The possibility of using nonstationary states and stable conditions in thermal diagnostics of exterior walls has been shown.

Description: Systematizing the partial solutions of the nonstationarity heat conduction problem of a flat wall in comparison with the general asymptotic solution of this problem, we have found the transverse temperature distributions with any monotone change in the ambient conditions and elucidated the heat conduction properties of the wall under these conditions. The asymptotic solution is given by semiconvergent series and definite integrals and has been investigated for power time dependences with an exponent of 0-2, which has enabled us to justify the concept of quasi-stationarity of the thermal parameters of the wall and obtain asymptotic errors and corrections defining the deviations of these parameters from their stationary values. The features of the average heat flows most resistant to thermal disturbances as to both time and amplitude have been considered. Keywords: heat conduction of a flat wall, variable boundary conditions, asymptotic dependences, quasi-stationarity, heat flow density.

Description: Studies of the correlation between neuron activity and behavior require objective measurement of animal movement. This is obtained using video recordings followed by analysis of video images. The conditions for recording neuron activity in a Morris basin require the video camera to be positioned at an angle to the water surface, which leads to perspective distortion of the images and, as a result, errors in trajectory analysis. In the present study we present a method for correcting perspective distortions.

Description: We have obtained experimental low-frequency Raman spectra for light scattering by nanoparticles of para -dichlorobenzene of size ∼300–70 nm. As their sizes decrease, the line frequencies decrease. The size of the nanoparticles was determined using an electron microscope. We found that in the lattice vibrational spectrum of nanoparticles of size 300–70 nm, a summed spectrum appears from α- para -dichlorobenzene and β- para -ichlorobenzene. This is consistent with molecular dynamics calculations of the structure of the nanoparticle and calculations of the histograms for the lattice vibrational spectra by the Dean method.

Description: Antitumor effects of glycolysis inhibitors monoiodoacetate and 2-deoxyglucose were studied on Lewis lung carcinoma model. Monoiodoacetate exhibited antitumor and antimetastatic activities, being not inferior of methotrexate (reference drug); however, the preparation also demonstrated high systemic toxicity. 2-Deoxyglucose exhibited only antitumor effect, while its antimetastatic activity did not differ from the result in the group without treatment.

Description: We study numerically the two-dimensional problem of excitation of a hollow round cylinder, which is made of a nonmagnetic material with [mu] = 1 and the negative dielectric permittivity [epsilon] 〈 0, by a filamentary source. It is found that when the relative dielectric permittivity is close to -1, high-Q resonances exist in hollow cylinders having electrically small diameters. We show that when the source of a cylindrical wave is located within the cavity, undirected radiation is converted at the resonance frequency into multipole radiation with a great number of identical lobes in the radiation pattern. The patterns of the near and far fields are calculated. The influence of the loss on the resonance properties is studied.
