Bis April 1945 versah Dr. Emil Warneken pflichtbewusst seinen Dienst beim Bremer Sondergericht. Als alteingesessener Richter war er das Gegenteil eines im »Dritten Reich« sozialisierten Juristen. Trotzdem fällte er 49 Todes- und viele weitere Unrechtsurteile - im Namen der NS-»Volksgemeinschaft« und ohne zu hinterfragen. Juristen prägten höchst wahrnehmbar das Bild von »Volksgemeinschaft« in der Bremer Öffentlichkeit. Sie zogen mittels der Rechtsprechung die Grenzen zwischen »Volksgenossen« und »Gemeinschaftsfremden«. Die Autorin untersucht anhand von beispielhaften Gerichtsverfahren und Lebensläufen maßgeblicher Akteure den Beitrag von Bremer Juristen zur Durchsetzung von NS-Herrschaft vor Ort. Sie beleuchtet darüber hinaus das Fortwirken der Volksgemeinschaftsidee nach 1945.
