Content: The use of robots in architecture is already commonplace: robots automate processes that were previously done manually. Complex shapes are created with the help of 3D printing while autonomous swarms of robots construct complex buildings. How does the use of robots affect the resulting structures; how does it affect the thinking of architects who work with robots? Robotic Building answers these questions with several practical examples. A final chapter explores the idea of architect as robot, the fully-automated home and similar concepts in which the robot merges with its environment and becomes part of our experience.

Content: MACHINE-GENERATED SUMMARY NOTE: "El Croquis (Spanish; translates to English as 'The Sketch') is one of the most prestigious architectural magazines in the world. The leading international architects choose it as their showcase. The volumes dedicated to established Pritzker Prize names like OMA Rem Koolhaas, Kazuyo Sejima, Herzog & de Meuron, Alvaro Siza or Rafael Moneo, are considered their respective oeuvre complète. For emerging architects, being published by El Croquis is a target in itself. In 1992 it was awarded the Gold Medal for Exports by the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, a rare accomplishment for an architectural journal. In 2014, editors Fernando Marquez Cecilia and Richard Levene received an International Fellowship from RIBA. Writing in Architects' Journal, Greg Pitcher cited 'the exceptional quality of their highly selective publications' and their work in supporting promising young architects, through which they have 'created retrospectively an international Who's Who of the architecture of the late 20th and early 21st centuries.' El Croquis Editorial is also noted for their exhibition gallery in El Escorial (Madrid), housing a large collection of architectural models in constant rotation."

Content: Writing Art is an attempt to respond to the possibilities of art, the potentialities in art, to the possible event that art is. Keeping in mind that events are always already potentially beyond us, are quite possibly unknown, unknowable. In this book, Jeremy Fernando meditates on art through a response to specifics works, to the specificity of the craft, tekhnē, of each work; offering a reading of specific works of photography (Photovoice sg), poetry (Tammy Ho Lai-Ming), installation art (Charles Lim), film (Tan Chui Mui), conceptual art (ZXEROKOOL), and charcoal drawings (Yanyun Chen). Through writing. For, to write is always also to scribble, to scratch, tear, quite possibly open - and perhaps more importantly, to open the possibility of a relation with another, to the unknowability that is the other. At the risk that this writing causes one to writhe, to be torn, to cry out; even if the very one is himself.

    Edition: 1st edition

Content: [Given, If, Then] attempts to conceive a possibility of reading, through a set of readings: reading being understood as the relation to an Other that occurs prior to any semantic or formal identification, and, therefore, prior to any attempt at assimilating, or appropriating, what is being read to the one who reads. As such, it is an encounter with an indeterminable Other, an Other who is other than other - an unconditional relation, and thus a relation to no fixed object of relation. The first reading by Jeremy Fernando, "Blind Reading," unfolds through an attempt to speak of reading as an event. Untheorisable in itself, it is a positing of reading as reading, through reading, where texts are read as a test site for reading itself. As such, it is a meditation on the finitude and exteriority in literature, philosophy, and knowledge; where blindness is both the condition and limit of reading itself. Folded into, or in between, this (re)reading are a selection of photographs from Jennifer Hope Davy's image archive. They are on the one hand simply a selection of 'impartial pictures' taken, and on the other hand that which allow for something singular and, therefore, always other to dis/appear - crossing that borderless realm between 'some' and 'some-thing.' Eventually, there is a writing on images on writings by Julia Hölzl. A responding to the impossible response, a re-iteration, a re-reading of what could not have been written, a re-writing of what could not have been read; these poems, if one were to name them such, name them as such, answer (to) the impossibility of answering: answer to no call.
