Eine der wichtigsten gesetzgeberischen Leistungen des Mittelalters ist die Goldene Bulle von 1356, mit der die Verfahren von Wahl und Krönung der römisch-deutschen Könige durch die Kurfürsten geregelt wurde. Dieses Werk Karls IV. galt 450 Jahre bis zum Ende des Alten Reiches 1806. Seit 2013 zählt die Goldene Bulle zum UNESCO-Weltdokumentenerbe. Anlässlich der 700. Wiederkehr des Geburtstags von Kaiser Karl IV. am 14. Mai 1316 präsentiert das Landesarchiv das Dokument und erinnert an einen der bedeutendsten spätmittelalterlichen Herrscher und sein Wirken in Südwestdeutschland. Dabei stehen die inhaltlichen Aspekte der Goldenen Bulle und ihre Bedeutung für den deutschen Südwesten im Vordergrund. Entstehung und Wirkung dieses Reichsgrundgesetzes werden ebenso thematisiert wie jragen zu Rang und Ritualen, die in den Bestimmungen über die Kurfürsten zum Ausdruck kommen. (Verlagstext)
