    Description: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a rare disease in newborns, infants, and children that is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. In the majority of pediatric patients, PH is idiopathic or associated with congenital heart disease and rarely is associated with other conditions such as connective tissue or thromboembolic disease. Incidence data from the Netherlands has revealed an annual incidence and point prevalence of 0.7 and 4.4 for idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension and 2.2 and 15.6 for pulmonary arterial hypertension, respectively, associated with congenital heart disease (CHD) cases per million children. The updated Nice classification for PH has been enhanced to include a greater depth of CHD and emphasizes persistent PH of the newborn and developmental lung diseases, such as bronchopulmonary dysplasia and congenital diaphragmatic hernia. The management of pediatric PH remains challenging because treatment decisions continue to depend largely on results from evidence based adult studies and the clinical experience of pediatric experts.     Description: Correlated responses of family size (FST) are reported for four lines maintained under diverse environmental conditions (lines): L1, 67% relative humidity (RH) and yeast-enriched whole wheat flour; L2, 67% RH and flour; L3, 80% RH and yeast-enriched whole wheat flour; and L4, 80% R Hand flour, respectively. Selection was for increased pupa weight (PWT) over 23 generations. The main objectives of this paper are to examine the correlated response in FST when selection was on PWT, and to examine genetic correlation between FST and PWT across four different environmental settings.

    Description: Data were analyzed within each environment by using multitrait derivative free restricted maximum likelihood procedures.Genetic groups to account for unknown ancestors were shown to be necessary components of the model for genetic prediction .Estimates of additive genetic variance from animal models seriously underestimate the true additive genetic variance if imported sires are not assigned to groups as unknown parents.

    Description: Selection for a single quantitative trait, increased pupa weight in Tribolium castaneum, was applied over 23 generations to enhance growth and development in four different environments.This research describes the design and outcome of a selection and mating scheme frequently occurring in commercial populations of livestock where there is an exchange of elite germplasm to enhance performance in other populations. Main objectives of the present study were to estimate the response to selection under diverse environmental settings, and to determine the magnitude and the direction of a possible genotype by environment interaction on pupa weight.
    Description: Tribolium castaneum'ların pupa ağırlıklarını artırmaya yönelik seleksiyon, dört farklı çevre şartlarında 23 generasyon süresince uygulanmıştır. Bu araştırma, özellikle büyükbaş hayvan sürülerindeki üretimi miktarını artırmak için sürekli olarak uygulanan çiftleştirme sistemini tanımlamaktadır. Bu çalışmanın başlıca amaçları, aynı karakterin farklı çevre şartlarında seleksiyona verdiği yanıtı, ve pupa ağırlığı bakımından muhtemel genotip x çevre interaksiyonunun miktarını ve yönünü tahmin etmektir. Dört farklı çevre şartında da eşit selekesiyon yoğunluğunun olmasına rağmen, bu çevre şartlarında tahmin edilen genetik yönelimler farklı bulunmuştur. ; Summaries (En, Tr) ; 2 tables ; 23 ref. ; p. 49-55
