Die Handlung von "Eine Frage der Schuld" nimmt die der "Kreutzersonate" auf (ein eifersüchtiger Ehemann ermordet seine vermeintlich untreue Ehefrau), aber Sofia Tolstaja schildert die Ereignisse aus der Perspektive der Frau - und sich selbst wohl als Alter ego ihrer Protagonistin. Dass das Leben an der Seite von Tolstoi ebensosehr ein Leben im Schatten wie auch im Dienste des großen Schriftstellers war, beschreibt Sofia Tolstoja in ihrer "Kurzen Autobiographie", dem 2., durch seine Lakonie beeindruckenden Text dieses Bandes.
