Abstract: Utilization of Coal bottom ash (CBA) as well as finding the solutions to prevent saline intrusion, meeting the needs of coastal infrastructure development have been considered by the authors of the article for a long time. In this study, the authors focused on analyzing capillary characteristics in order to find a suitable group of CBA particles, which can be applied in the design of foundations with the high ability in restricting or preventing the effects of salt in saline groundwater. The obtained results show that (1) The capillary height is inversely proportional to the particle size: the larger the particle, the smaller the capillary height and vice versa. The CBA group with a diameter of 2.0 - 5.0 mm has an average capillary height around 3.33 cm; a group of particles size of 1.0 - 2.0 mm is 7.16 cm; a group of particles size of 0.5 – 1.0 mm is 23.36 cm. Meanwhile, the group of particles size of 0.1 - 0.5 mm is 31.26 cm. (2) The capillary height is inversely proportional to the salt concentration in the capillary solution: the maximum capillary height exhibits with the lowest capillary solution salinity ~ 0.0 g/L, whereas it reaches minimum value when salinity approximate 33.0 g/L. Thus, CBA with the same particle size of gravel (diameter from 2.0 to 5.0 mm) is able to block capillary flow. This study forms the basis for the design solutions of anti-saline foundation, especially in the context of climate change and sea-level rise.

Abstract: Panax bipinnatifidus Seem. is a precious medicinal plant belonging to the Araliaceae family. This study qualitatively analyzed saponins of the stem, leaf and rhizome of P. bipinnatifidus by HPLC. Subsequently, by using chromatographic techniques, a major saponin from the leaf of P.bipinnatifidius Seem. was isolated. On the basis of NMR and MS spectroscopic data as well as comparison with those reported in the literature, the isolated saponin’s structure was identified as stipuleanoside R2. To the best our knowledge, this is the first report of saponin from the aerial part of P. bipinnatifidius Seem. Keywords Panax bipinnatifidus, Araliaceae, Stipuleanosid R2, HPLC..

Abstract: Sam bo chinh (Abelmoschus sagittifolius (Kurz) Merr.) is a precious medicinal plant that has been exploited and planted in Vietnam for a long time. However, the morphological characteristics of this plant is easy to confuse with other species of the same genus. In addition, the microscopic characteristics and medicinal powder composition of this medicinal plant have not been comprehensively described. The present investigation was aimed to determine the morphological and microscopic characters of Sam bo chinh using comparative morphology, anatomical research and medicinal powder analysis. The complete description of morphological and microscopic characteristics reported in this study will serve as valuable data for the conservation and development of this species in Vietnam. Abstract: This study is carried out with the aim of designing several experiments for teaching chapter 1 - Matter and Energy Metabolism - Biology 11 as well as evaluating the effectiveness of using experiments in teaching practical competencies-oriented development. We have used various methods such as theoretical research, investigation, consultation, and pedagogical experiment to obtain objective and comprehensive results. The data are then analyzed by the highly reliable mathematical - statistical software. The results obtained in the pedagogical experiment show that using experiment in combination with other active teaching methods has initially brought about effectiveness. Experiments not only help students deepen their knowledge, but also help them build up and develop their practical competence. Therefore, the design and teaching experiments in teaching Biology is an extremely necessary for a highly effective learning.

Abstract: While feathers are still commonly regarded in many places as waste, in many developed countries it has been considered a valuable by-product of the poultry industry. The poultry industry of Vietnam has achieved encouraging achievements in the past 10 years. The total flock of poultry from 100 million to now has reached nearly 467 million. Though light as a feather, with the vast quantities of chickens produced annually, the number of feathers produced is considerable. Research has shown that the feathers have hydrophobic properties and can therefore be used to make products that absorb oil. However, the use of large amounts of toxic detergents to clean chicken feathers in reported studies has reduced the environmental significance of agricultural waste reuse. In this study, we evaluated the possibility of replacing toxic cleaning agents with eco-friendly natural cleaners in the handling of chicken feathers. Water-based extracts of soapnuts and bo-ket fruits have been selected for our study due to their high saponin content - an effective cleaning agent, and have been used as a dishwashing liquid or shampoo for a long-time by local housewives. Our study showed that natural detergents derived from soapnuts have been shown the ability to remove lards on the plastic surface, and to clean chicken feathers, thereby increasing their capacity to absorb various oils including cooking oil, used cooking oil, and lubricant oil. We have also created an oil-absorbing pillow containing soapnut extract-treated chicken feathers with a maximum efficiency of 16.8 g/g in absorbing lubricant oil. Our research opens new avenues for the use and treatment of poultry feathers, contributing to the reduction of solid waste from the poultry industry by methods which is friendlier to the environment. The greenness of the created absorber is guaranteed.

Abstract: Trong bối cảnh nhu cầu phát triển về mặt lý luận và kinh nghiệm để nâng cao năng lực tiếng Anh cho mọi bậc học ở Việt Nam trở nên vô cùng cần thiết, chúng tôi đã tiến hành thử nghiệm hoạt động dạy tiếng Anh theo cách tiếp cận học qua chơi tại một cơ sở giáo dục mầm non.
