    Description: The efficiency of a random search strategy in complex networks is measured with the mean first passage time. We formulate a problem of adding a set of k links between the two subsets of the vertex set that optimally reduce the mean first passage time between the sets. We propose two greedy algorithms that approximately solve the problem and we compare their performance against several standard link prediction algorithms.

    Description: Transmission of electrons via metal-molecule-metal junctions, involving rotor-stator anthracene aldehyde molecules is investigated. Two model barriers having input parameters evaluated from accurate ab initio calculations are proposed and the transmission coefficients are obtained by using the quasiclassical approximation. Transmission coefficients further enter in the integral for the net current, utilizing Simmons’ method. Conformational dependence of the tunneling processes is evident and the presence of the side groups enhances the functionality of the future single-molecule based electronic devices.

    Description: We study the process of synchronization that takes place on multiplex networks, i.e., on a set of networks linked through interconnected layers. As a measure for synchronization we use the eigenratio between the largest and the smallest eigenvalue of the Laplacian matrix of the multiplex graph. Using this measure we analyze how the synchronization depends on the weight of the interconnection links in a given multiplex network. Furthermore, the main results of this work show that even though a network has a bigger eigenratio than other networks, when it is multiplexed with other networks its synchronization rate can be slowed. The results from this work can be easily applied in modeling and analyzing the process of opinion formation in social networks and synchronization in Smart Grid.

    Description: Energy efficiency is gaining importance in wireless communication networks which have nodes with limited energy supply and signal processing capabilities. We present a numerical study of cooperative communication scenarios based on simple local rules. This is in contrast to most of the approaches in the literature which enforce cooperation by using complex algorithms and require strategic complexity of the network nodes. The approach is motivated by recent results in evolutionary biology which suggest that, if certain mechanism is at work, cooperation can be favored by natural selection, i. e. even selfish actions of the individual nodes can lead to emergence of cooperative behavior in the network. The results of the simulations in the context of wireless communication networks verify these observations and indicate that uncomplicated local rules, followed by simple fitness evaluation, can generate network behavior which yields global energy efficiency.

    Description: We propose a compression method for True Random Bit Generators (TRBGs) that exploits pseudo-chaotic systems. The compression scheme requires extremely low-complex hardware circuits for being implemented whereas its theoretical explanation is based on a weaker and more general interpretation of the Shadowing Theory, focusing on probability measures, rather than on single chaotic trajectories. We prove theoretically how to design the overall compression scheme, in order to assure the final entropy of the compressed TRBG to be arbitrarily close to the maximum theoretical limit of 1 bit/time-step.

    Description: In this paper we present a novel system for information transmission by means of chaos synchronisation. Unlike the existing systems for communication via chaotic synchronization, our system extracts the information at the receiver without error. We propose a new algorithm for secret-key cryptography, based on our system for chaos synchronization. Its quality is evaluated through numerous statistical tests that have not pointed out any weakness. To the best of our knowledge, the modern cryptoanalysis techniques do not provide a method for breaking our algorithm. Furthermore, it is extremely simple to implement the proposed model in a program.
