Chabbi erläutert diese Geschichte bis zum standardisierten Hochchinesisch und versucht ausserdem die begrifflichen und strukturellen Möglichkeiten der Sprache offen zu legen. Rezension (ekz): Chinesisch ist die meistgesprochene Muttersprache weltweit und hat die längste ununterbrochene Schrifttradition. Chabbi erläutert diese Geschichte bis zum standardisierten Hochchinesisch oder Mandarin, das auf den Pekinger Dialekt zurückgeht. Sie versucht ausserdem die begrifflichen und strukturellen Möglichkeiten der Sprache, etwa als politischem Instrument, offen zu legen. Viele Chinesen verstehen sich mündlich nicht, können aber die gemeinsame Schriftsprache nutzen. Die Schriftzeichen setzen sich aus Piktogrammen, Ideogrammen bzw. Phonogrammen zusammen. Chabbi beschreibt die Begriffsbildung, die aus deutscher Sicht stark eingeschränkte Grammatik und die Varianten im Satzbau. Die Sprache besteht nur aus 418 Silben mit jeweils vier verschiedenen Tönen, die die Herausbildung einer Umschrift, also eine Latinisierung, erschweren. Heute kommt es zu kreativen Neubildungen im Internet etwa durch eine Sinisierung fremdsprachlicher Ausdrücke. Vgl. u.a.
