Motoori Norinaga (1730-1801) à ce jour considéré comme la figure pionnière à l'origine du développement du fukko shintô et de l'évolution politique et religieuse du mouvement des études nationales. Mais, l'ensemble des études souligne la singularité de sa pensée, tout en relevant les résistances qu'elle oppose à l'établissement de cette lignée. Par le choix de son oeuvre majeure du Kojikiden, "Commentaire du Kojiki", cette thèse a pour objectif d'expliquer sa conviction de foi à partir de son propre a priori de l'authenticité du texte des récits mythiques du Japon. En prenant pour fondement les implications du sens inhérent à la nature propre de ces récits, cette étude confronte la lecture du texte du Kojikiden avec les essais de penseurs occidentaux sur le mythe. En découvrant les contradictions, nées de la réception nationaliste de sa pensée, la cohérence de sa vision du monde trouve sa signification propre par la fonction du mythe. La conciliation de sa pensée aux systèmes de l'idéologie impériale et du shintô est mise en parallèle avec la réception fasciste de la pensée de Nietzsche, d'après l'analyse de Geogres Bataille. Si l'explication de la pensée de Motoori, à partir de son propre a priori, autorise la reconnaissance de son unité, elle éveille parallèlement le problème de l'antithèse entre myth et raison. En prenant appui sur les travaux du philosophe allemand Hans Blumenberg, cette antithèse soulève la question de savoir quel est le mythos du logos, ou vice versa, et sur quel postulat le mythe peut être à ce jour considéré comme tenant lieu provisoire de la raison

Motoori Norinaga (1730-1801) is today considered the pioneering figure at the origin of the development of fukko shintô and of the political and religious evolution of the movement of national studies. Yet a consideration of his works in their entirety underlines the singularity of his thought, while at the same time revealing resistances it contains to the establishment of that heritage. Through analysis of his major work, The Koji-ki-den ('Commentary on the Koji-ki'), this thesis aims to explain the convictions of Norinaga's faith based on his own a priori on the authenticity of the text of Japan's mythical narratives. Using as a basis the meanings inherent in these tales, this study analyses the Koji-ki-den text through essays on myth by Western thinkers. Contradictions emerging from the nationalist reception of his thought are uncovered and the coherence of his Weltausstellung finds its own meaning through the function of myth. The reconciling of Norinaga's thought with systems of imperial ideology and of shintô is paralleled to the fascist reception of Nietzsche's thought, as expounded by Georges Bataille. Explaining Motoori's thought through his own a priori authorises the recognition of its unity, while at the same time revealing the problem of antithesis between myth and reason. Using the writing of the German philosopher, Hans Blumenberg, this counter-argument gives rise to the question of knowing what is the mythos of the logos, or vice versa, and on what postulate can myth today be considered a provisional substitute for reason
