Abstract:
Immanuel Wallerstein hat die Gleichzeitigkeit und Kombination unterschiedlicher Arbeitsverhältnisse als ein zentrales Charakteristikum des ,,kapitalistischen Weltsystems“ herausgearbeitet. Damit wurde eine Debatte über Kapitalismus eröffnet, die konservative und
liberale WissenschaftlerInnen erschreckte und MarxistInnen irritierte. Gemeinsam war und ist vielen von ihnen die Überzeugung, dass sich Kapitalismus durch das Privateigentum an Produktionsmitteln, Konkurrenz-, Innovations- und Expansionsdynamik, den Markt als Allokationsfaktor sowie die Durchsetzung freier Lohnarbeit auszeichne. Unbezahlte und unfreie Arbeit wurde daher dem Vor- oder Nichtkapitalistischen zugeordnet. Nun behauptete jemand, dass Plantagensklaverei, Frondienst, Subsistenz- oder Hausarbeit, Arbeit in Halbpacht, Anteilswirtschaft, Arbeit im Verlagswesen oder
im informellen Sektor ebenso zum Kapitalismus gehörten wie die proletarische Existenz.
