Das Internet hat in den USA eine Debatte über die Zukunft des politischen Systems initiiert. Vordergründig geht es dabei um digitale Zugänge zu Parlamentsinformationen, virtuelle Town-Halls oder gar Abstimmungen per Mausklick. Dahinter verbergen sich jedoch differenzierte Ansätze, die die Möglichkeiten politischer Kommunikation und politischer Beteiligung in modernen Demokratien problematisieren. Diese Arbeit systematisiert und vergleicht erstmalig die wichtigsten Konzepte elektronischer Demokratie. Sie eröffnet damit den Zugang zu einer faszinierenden Diskussion, die bis jetzt in Deutschland nur verkürzt und unvollständig rezipiert wurde.
