On the basis of some contributions to musical semiotics by Luiz Tatit, we present an analysis of the XIXth century Brazilian song named "Hei de amar-te até morrer!". We focus on the relation between melody and lyrics, assuming this to be the source for the production of meaning in musical language. Our analysis' aim is to demonstrate that what is verbally said is also musically done in the song.Keywords: Song. Brazilian "modinha". Meaning.

Com base nas propostas da semiótica da canção (Luiz Tatit), comentamos aqui uma modinha brasileira do século XIX, intitulada “Hei de amar-te até morrer!”. Nosso enfoque recai sobre a integração de letra e melodia, fulcro da produção de sentido nessa forma específica de linguagem. A análise tenta verificar até que ponto aquilo que é dito pelo componente verbal já está sendo feito pelo componente musical da peça em questão.Palavras-chave: Canção. Modinha. Sentido.
