Abstract: Der nordwestliche Rand der Metropolregion Athen wird bestimmt durch die Ver- und Entsorgungsinfrastruktur, eine (teils noch informelle) Siedlungsstruktur und soziale Zusammensetzung sowie deren vielfältigen Zusammenhänge und Verknüpfungen mit kulturell geprägten Vorstellungen von Schmutz und (Un-)Ordnung. Räumlich wie sinnlich dominiert die Mülldeponie Fyli, eine der größten Europas. Der Abfall in seinen vielen Facetten (als Stoffstrom, Ressource, Verschmutzung) trägt eine entscheidende soziokulturelle und ökonomische Bedeutung für die in diesem Aufsatz betrachteten Prozessen der Raumproduktion. Ausgehend vom Abfallkreislauf wird der analytische Blick um die Schnittstellen, Verknüpfungen und systemischen Interaktionen mit weiteren Strömen und Prozessen (Energie, Wasser und Verkehrsinfrastruktur) erweitert.
