Content: This paper examines progress in establishing mutual recognition arrangements for Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) programs under the World Customs Organization’s SAFE Framework of Standards to Secure and Facilitate Global Trade. In particular, it considers the likely impact on industry and customs administrations of the current bilateral approach to establishing mutual recognition agreements, and recommends a plurilateral approach that will minimise the proliferation of such agreements and, in doing so, reduce the regulatory burden on both administrators and the trading community.

Content: Adaptive and innovative application of classical data mining principles and techniques in time series analysis has resulted in development of a concept known as time series data mining. Since the time series are present in all areas of business and scientific research, attractiveness of mining of time series datasets should not be seen only in the context of the research challenges in the scientific community, but also in terms of usefulness of the research results, as a support to the process of business decision-making. A fundamental component in the mining process of time series data is time series segmentation. As a data mining research problem, segmentation is focused on the discovery of rules in movements of observed phenomena in a form of interpretable, novel, and useful temporal patterns. In this Paper, a comprehensive review of the conceptual determinations, including the elements of comparative analysis, of the most commonly used algorithms for segmentation of time series, is being considered.

Content: The objective of this paper is to evaluate the behaviour of Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) sector indices. Specifically, the paper analyzes the returns correlation, serial correlation and heteroscedasticity on the NSE All-share Index, Banking Index, Consumer Goods Index, Oil & Gas Index, NSE 30 Index, Insurance Index, Industrial Goods Index, Pension Index, and Alternative Securities Market Index, using daily returns ranging from 02 July 2008 to 31 December 2015. The study employs descriptive statistics, autocorrelation function (ACF) and Ljung-Box Q (LB-Q) statistics, as well as the autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity Lagrange multiplier (ARCHLM) techniques in conducting the empirical analysis. Descriptive statistics obtained from the NSE sector returns show negative skewness, leptokurtosis, and non-normal distribution. Estimates from the ACF and LB-Q statistics indicate evidence of serial correlation in majority of the sectors’ returns. Furthermore, estimates from the ARCHLM model provide evidence of heteroscedasticity in most of the sectors’ returns. Overall results from the study suggest that the returns of NSE sectors are serially correlated and heteroscedastic. There is therefore the need to model the volatility of these sectors to increase understanding of their behaviour.

Content: Trade is an essential indicator for measuring a country's economic condition. It is also an effective way of balancing goods and services among countries. No country in the modern world is self-sufficient in goods and services. That is the reason for emerging the economic concept of trade. The primary purpose of the study is to analyse the trade opportunities between Azerbaijan and Bangladesh, as well as to demonstrate the potential resurrection of cotton industry as an important export sector in Azerbaijan. The whole analysis relies on secondary data, such as articles, newspapers, and websites-mainly the International Trade Centre (ITC) and the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The study concludes that there is an opportunity for potential bilateral trade relation between Azerbaijan and Bangladesh based on their export and import items. In addition, the cotton industry has an enormous potentiality to become an important export sector in Azerbaijan.

Content: The new ongoing world economy processes and political events have affected the Baltic countries. All these countries faced in a short time the complex of environmental conditions as the pressure of EU debt crisis, weak euro against the dollar, the Russian-Ukraine conflict, sanctions against Russia, prices of oil and gas. However, all Baltic countries have had quick recoveries from the recent recession, while their economies had different shape before the crisis. The object of this research is the short time effects on Baltics ’by joining the single currency system. The method used for investigation – comparative statistical analysis using the Eurostat database and national statistics. The study is directed at investigating the impact of changeovers of the national currency to the euro on macro trends and consumer and business expectations. For this purpose, the changes in macroeconomic indicators during the time before and in the aftermath in each country are presented in the context of integration. The result of this study suggests that statistically significant positive effect on macroeconomic and expectation indicators show the importance of joining the single currency system.

Content: In the past few years a growing consideration of enterprises’ social role has brought public opinion, management scholars and companies themselves to give more and more attention and space to the concept of ethics. Over the decades, the doctrine has made some considerable progress in defining that peculiar variation of ethics that is business ethics, while many companies have started to equip themselves with means of measurement and definition of their ethical behavior. Today, indeed, many companies have acquired full knowledge of the fact that it is convenient to manage their ethics as much as their financial efficiency and that it is deeply wrong to believe that committing to managing social relationships is to be considered a mere moral matter (therefore, somehow optional). Today corporations are assigned a new role in society, a role that goes hand in hand with the more “institutional” one of producing goods and offering services while creating wealth: this way, the company becomes an organization which must acquire a more responsible behavior in the satisfaction of human rights. It becomes a cell operating in synergy in the vaster macroeconomics system. The aim of this paper is to show the dynamics that exist between business ethics and social balance.

Content: Purpose – Against the background of current leadership theory, this research paper analyses and compares the leadership approaches of two outstanding leaders: Daniel Vasella, chairman of the leading Swiss pharmaceutical organization Novartis and Ricardo Semler, owner of the Brazilian conglomerate Semco. In contrast to many rather abstract, unpractical and pointlessly theoretical papers on leadership this analysis provides a more applied view of leadership by means of the life history approach delivering insight into both leaders’ development and leader personality. Methodology/approach – First, this paper locates the ideas and practices associated with the term “leadership” as a concept through theories that have developed over time and shows how the practices of leading can be derived and understood through chosen theories. Based on this, the specific characteristics and career paths of both leaders are presented and compared so that a final analysis of their leadership approach can be done. The paper is based on secondary sources such as peer-reviewed business journals and literature on leadership. Information about both leaders and their approach to leadership is gathered mainly from published interviews with them. Additional information on Semler is taken from his autobiography. Conclusions – It is difficult to identify an “essence” of leadership, whether that takes the form of personality characteristics or traits, charisma, the ability to transform people or organizations or a brain function. All presented theories of leadership seem to have their raison d’être. Both Vasella and Semler apply a combination of different attitudes and behaviours that characterize their leadership style containing elements of transformational, charismatic, ethical, servant and authentic onal leadership.

Content: The Institute of Business Sciences of the University of Miskolc carried out a survey of management consulting firms and enterprises in 2001, 2005-2006 (Szadai, 2007), 2011-2012 (Tokár-Szadai, 2014), and 2015-16 in North-eastern Hungary. The goal of our surveys was to determine the status (importance) of business consulting in our region (North-eastern Hungary) and examine the changes in the entrepreneurs’ experiences with consulting services over the last 15 years. The satisfaction with consultants and the results of consulting services have improved a little, but haven’t changed significantly in the last 15 years. According to our surveys, more solutionoriented proposals would make the consultants more convenient to their clients.

Content: The Institute of Business Sciences of the University of Miskolc conducted a survey in 2001, 2005-06, 2011-12 and 2015-16 among consultants and their clients. In this study, the author presents on the basis of which aspects the clients choose a consultant, what the difference is between the opinion of the consultants and their clients, how these aspects changed in the examined period, and how the consultants would be able to meet their clients’ requirements. According to the surveys, consultants – in the case of most selection criteria – see the importance of the single criteria similarly to their clients and perceive its change similarly. More flexible, more complex, and more solution orientated proposals would make the consultants more convenient to their clients.
