Compendium on numerical mathematics with C-programs. 2., vollst. überarb. u. erw. Aufl. (Formelsammlung zur numerischen Mathematik mit C-Programmen. Anhang: C-Programme von Albert Becker, Thilo Gukelberger und Dorothée Seesing-Völkel.) (German) Zbl 0712.65001

Mannheim etc.: B.I.-Wissenschaftsverlag. 744 S. DM 74.00 (1990).
This compendium on numerical mathematics consists of two parts: the text part and the C-program part. The text part of the present second edition of this compendium [for the first edition (1987) see Zbl 0625.65001] coincides with the 6th edition of the compendium containing standard FORTRAN 77 programs instead of C programs in its second part (1990; Zbl 0674.65001).
The text part is well written and contains all essential numerical methods usually included in the basic courses on numerical mathematics. The main ideas of the numerical methods and the resulting algorithms are particularly emphasized. Proofs of convergence etc. are excluded from the compendium.
The second part of the book contains the C-programs of the most of the algorithms discussed in the first part. The source files and test programs are available from the authors. There are still versions of this compendium in which the C-programs of the second part are replaced by the corresponding F77-, or Turbo-PASCAL-, or MODULA-2-, or APL-, or Quick- BASIC-programs. So, the compendium can be recommended not only to mathematicians but also to a wide spectrum of users of numerical methods.
