Translated DNA comparison allows the detection of homology outside annotated features of a query genome. This can lead to the detection of novel ORFs, novel introns/exons, ORF extensions, and ORF fusions (fusion of adjacent ORFs or merging of overlapping ORFs with same transcription direction). Gray areas illustrate regions of homology at the protein level and dashed lines depict suggested modifications in the query genome. Cases of changed splice sites may also be detected but are not drawn here.
