Editorial Comment

New HIV prophylactic and preventive measures are needed. In this randomized study the daily oral use of 2 antiviral drugs significantly decreased HIV conversion among men who have sex with men by 44%. Among high compliance patients the risk was decreased by 92%. Side effects were a major reason for noncompliance. The cost of the regimen in the United States is around $14,000 yearly. Although the drugs are effective, side effects, cost, blood level monitoring and compliance make this regimen
