Hat die Reformation tatsächlich einen Wandel der Geschlechterbeziehungen bewirkt und/oder ein neues Ehekonzept hervorgebracht? Während sozial-, religions- und geschlechtergeschichtliche Studien die Gründe für konzeptuelle Unterschiede in den Ehetexten der Frühen Neuzeit meist in sozialen und religiösen Veränderungen sehen, wählen die Autoren und Autorinnen dieses Bandes einen textwissenschaftlichen Erklärungsansatz: Demzufolge sind Aussagen zur Ehe nicht nur durch soziale oder religiöse Bedingungsfaktoren bestimmt, sondern durch die kommunikativ-situativen Rahmenbedingungen des Sprechens und Schreibens. Die Anpassung von Texten und Topoi an verschiedene Gebrauchssituationen zeigt dabei, daß Ehetexte, die aus verschiedenen Jahrhunderten stammen, aber dieselben kommunikativen Parameter aufweisen, hinsichtlich ihrer Aussagen einander näherstehen als zeitgleiche Ehetexte mit unterschiedlicher Gebrauchsfunktion.
