Das flavische Epos ist von seiner Vielstimmigkeit geprägt: Aus jedem der drei großen Epen dieser Zeit spricht eine andere erzählerische persona. Sie tritt in dynamische Interaktion mit der erzählten Welt und wird von den dargestellten Sänger- und Prophetenfiguren gespiegelt. Mit ihren unterschiedlichen Auffassungen von der Form und Funktion epischen Erzählens reagieren die drei Dichter auf die sich wandelnden Herausforderungen ihrer Zeit.

The three Flavian poets, Valerius Flaccus, Statius, and Silius Italicus, held different views on the form and function of epic storytelling. This study shows which personae perform the role of storyteller in their works and how these interact with the narrated world and are mirrored by the singers and prophetic characters in the narrative.
