Das anhaltende öffentliche Interesse am Mittelalter schlägt sich aktuell stark in der Kinder- und Jugendliteratur nieder. Im akademischen und schulischen Bereich wird diesem Phänomen hingegen nur selten Rechnung getragen. Das Buch lotet aus, wie viel «Mittelalter» durch moderne Texte für junge Leserinnen und Leser tatsächlich vermittelt wird und werden kann. Hierzu werden exemplarisch Adaptationen des Artusstoffs aus der aktuellen Kinder- und Jugendliteratur analysiert. Im Vordergrund steht hierbei die Frage, ob diese Literatur geeignet ist, als «Brücke» zu mittelalterlichen Texten zu wirken und damit Wege für eine schulische und außerschulische Beschäftigung mit dieser Epoche zu initiieren.
