Content: 〈p〉If we believe popular social critique, we are living in a society determined by anxiety. People are increasingly concerned about social decline, social cohesion, the consequences of climate change, or crime. This volume compiles current research results on people's emotions and critically examines the diagnosis of an "anxiety society": are the economic concerns of the middle class really responsible for the electoral successes of right-wing populist parties? What fears do precariously employed people have and what influences the professional concerns of young people? And, importantly: How do people with a migration background perceive social cohesion in our society?〈/p〉

Note: Coverage 1941-1996 , As the United States' principal historical record of political open source intelligence for more than half a century, the Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS) Daily Report is an indispensable source for insights into decades of turbulent world history. The original mission of the FBIS was to monitor, record, transcribe and translate intercepted radio broadcasts from foreign governments, official news services, and clandestine broadcasts from occupied territories. Accordingly, it provides a wealth of information from all countries outside of the U.S.—from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe. FBIS Daily Reports, 1941-1996 constitutes a one-of-a-kind archive of transcripts of foreign broadcasts and news that provides fascinating insight into the second half of the 20th century. Many of these materials are firsthand reports of events as they occurred. , Digitized from original paper copy and high-quality microfilm, this definitive online collection features full-text transcripts from Africa, Asia and the Pacific, China, Eastern and Western Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and the Soviet Union. Fully searchable for the first time, this unique digital collection features individual bibliographic records for each report and highlighted events to assist researchers. The database has three parts: FBIS Daily Reports 1941-1974, FBIS Daily Reports 1974-1996, Part 1: Middle East, Africa, Near East and South Asia (MEA, NES), Part 2: Sub-Saharan Africa & South Asia (SSA, SAF, AFR, SAS), Part 3: China (CHI), Part 4: Asia, Pacific and East Asia (APA, EAS), Part 5: Latin America (LAT, LAM), Part 6: Eastern Europe (EEU), Part 7: Soviet Union and Central Eurasia (SOV), Part 8: Western Europe (WEU). FBIS Daily Reports Annexes 1974-1996: The reports, offered as images, are searchable in full text and can be downloaded in PDF format. , It is helpful to narrow down large amounts of hits by limiting the search to selected continents, countries or regions, the genre such as text, excerpt or summary, to publication series titles, or even by time. In addition, it is possible to search for specific historical events such as the “Berlin Blockade”.

Note: Gesehen am 10.11.2015 , In recent years, issues of freedom of religion or belief and state-religion relations have become increasingly important worldwide. While some works have treated such issues regionally, the Encyclopedia of Law and Religion is unique in its breadth, covering all independent nations and jurisdictions as well as the major international organizations, treating the relation between law and religion in its various aspects, including those related to the role of religion in society, the relations between religion and state institutions, freedom of religion, legal aspects of religious traditions, the interaction between law and religion, and other issues at the junction of law, religion, and state.

Content: In East German schools geography was one of those subjects with an extensive share of political content connected with the communist ideology of Marxism and Leninism. Additionally, pupils’ educational skills oriented toward the same ideological and humanistic parameters were also highly valued. The main focus was creating socialist citizens with socialist personalities. This paper tries to sift out what was demanded from the teachers in former East Germany to make this a reality in schools. Due to the fall of the Berlin wall a reorganization of the East German educational system was necessary. In this case the paper tries to find answers to the questions of how geography teachers managed to handle this shake-up and, ultimately, if or how they were convinced about it. Therefore, interviews were implemented with teachers who taught geography at school both in East Germany and in the reunited Germany. The main questions related to the preferred way of teaching before and after the political system transformation. The results show a low level of differences between geography lessons in East and West German schools. So maybe there was no need or will to change contents and styles of the lessons. It seems that already during the last decade of the GDR most of the interviewed teachers reduced the amount of ideological and political content just to extend the physical geography. So, for them it was possible to continue working after the fall of the Berlin wall without big difficulties. Also, there seemed to be many similarities between the value educations in East and West Germany. Only the main difference – the socialist ideology – was cancelled. Today the subject geography belongs to the department of social sciences at school, but during the interviews a lot of the teachers made clear that in their point of view geography is a part of the natural sciences section. That is surprising because even in East Germany most of the content was related to the social part as well. The responsibility to educate children in the communist way had of course vanished and nearly all of the interviewed teachers are happy with that. But still today they continue to emphasize the East German value education with its humanistic foundation.

Content: The history of gay liberation in the 1970s has primarily been told through the prism of radical or left-alternative activists, focusing on groups like the Gay Liberation Front in New York or the Homosexual Action West Berlin. Complicating this narrative, this article analyses cultures of conservatism in male homosexual politics, comparing the Federal Republic with the United States in the 1970s. Craig Griffiths zooms in on discourses of responsibility and caution while focusing on the identifications of some gay men as ordinary and sensible and their rejection of confrontation and flamboyance. In doing so, he shows that concepts such as liberation, emancipation or even gay power have no fixed meanings, far less meanings that are inherently radical or conservative.

Content: The organization of production by employers was not indifferent to gender. Labour markets were sexually differentiated, since women and men were considered to be distinct labour forces distinguished by virtue of the differing roles they were supposed to play. The male role was that of the bread-winner, and the fact that this often reflected the reality of the situation should not obscure the point that it was a social construction. Women, on the other hand, were considered as mostly occupied with unpaid domestic work, regardless of whether they were also engaged in work for the market. Bread-winning patterns have been widely debated, particularly with respect to whether the male breadwinner system appeared as a result of industrialization or existed previously as a consequence of a universal system of patriarchy. In parallel with a more cyclical conception of industrialization, recent studies on breadwinner patterns do not support theories based on capitalism or patriarchy but rather support a more historical approach based on the importance of other exogenous factors such as the regional economy, the local labour market and the customs and associations acting upon it, employers' choices or the legal and institutional framework. The following paper is a case study related to working-class women, the cigarreras, who were the main wage earners in the family. It relates to an industry (tobacco) which operated under a monopoly system, and to a particular region (southern Spain), which was fairly underdeveloped in terms of industry. This paper examines from a micro-perspective the universality of patriarchal breadwinner patterns, the discontinuity of the industrialization process, and the importance of other exogenous factors in explaining patterns of bread-winning. It asks whether changing exogenous factors during the industrialization process make it possible for a female breadwinner and male house-husband model to arise.

Content: The introduction outlines the main ideas behind this book, its genesis, and the relationship with extant scholarship. Before presenting a tour through the book, it discusses the different viewpoints on Russia and its relation to Europe or “the West” as articulated in “the West” and in Russia herself as a background for studying the Chinese views on the topic. Since the latter were also intertwined with Japan to some degree, the role and impact of Japanese perceptions of Russia and “the West” are also briefly recalled. Similarly, the concept of “the West” itself is not a set and fixed given, but needs to be problematized. The book’s main aim consists of looking closer into the changes, continuities, and contingencies of Chinese perceptions of Russia and the West during the JSth century, focusing on three areas: official normative views as reflected in Chinese school history textbooks; creative imaginary approaches in literature; and visual and material manifestations in everyday life. Acknowledging “Greater China” as representing “Chinese” perceptions, beyond mainland China also Taiwan, and to some degree Hong Kong and Macau, are addressed. Taking the JSth century with its many historical shifts and reconfigurations of entities in political, social, and economic terms as the longitudinal line, the book presents a multilayered discussion of “Chinese” perceptions of what “Russia” and “the West” meant for whom, when, and why; where “frontlines” between them were acknowledged; and under which circumstances, by whom, and to which end, the entities as such were constructed, questioned, reconfigured, merged, or even dissolved.
