    Inhalt: In einer Verbindung von diskurs-, medien- und literaturgeschichtlicher Perspektivierung wird gezeigt, dass die Einführung der Kategorie des Individuellen in den Bereich des Wissens und damit die Entstehung des modernen Falldenkens am Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts erst durch Fallsammlungen ermöglicht wird, die in Zeitschriften publiziert werden. Im Rekurs auf Flecks Konzept der Zeitschriftenwissenschaft wird das Medium als das Fallmaterial organisierendes Dispositiv untersucht, das in seiner Heterogenität, Vorläufigkeit und Diskursivität dem Genre der Falldarstellung entspricht. Die Analyse von Falldarstellungen im Publikationskontext periodischer Schriften verdeutlicht, dass Fälle nicht als isolierte Einzeltexte zu betrachten sind, sondern in ihren Formen und Funktionen erst erfasst werden können, wenn man sie in einem intertextuellen Gefüge von Reihenbildungen, Weiterverarbeitungen und Diskussionen in den Blick nimmt. Autoren und Psychologen wie Herz, Moritz, Wezel, Hoffbauer, Reil, Maimon, Trapp, Bendavid, Conz oder Müllner werden situiert als Teil einer Debattenkultur, die vorrangig über Zeitschriftennetzwerke organisiert ist. Ein Konnex von Fallsammlungen und literarischen Diskursen ergibt sich nicht nur durch thematische Interferenzen, sondern ebenso durch die Adaption literarischer Narrationsformen bei der Konstruktion von Fällen
    Inhalt: By combining the perspectives of discourse, media and literary history, this book shows that awareness of the category of individuality, and therefore the emergence of modern case law thinking, was only generated at the end of the 18th century through the publication of collections of cases in journals. With recourse to Fleck’s concept of journal theory, this book examines this medium as the agency that organised the case material and that corresponded to the genre of case reports because of its heterogeneity, provisional nature and discursiveness. Analysing case reports in the context of their publication in periodicals highlights that cases should not be regarded as isolated individual texts, but that their forms and functions can only be understood if they are examined within an intertextual framework of series of images, further processing and discussions. This book classes authors and psychologists such as Herz, Moritz, Wezel, Hoffbauer, Reil, Maimon, Trapp, Bendavid, Conz or Müllner as being part of a culture of debate which overrides networks of journals. Furthermore, there is not only a connection between collections of cases and literary discourse in terms of their overlapping themes, but also through their adaptation of literary forms of narration in the construction of cases

Disinformation, or the willful introduction of false information for the purposes of causing harm, recalls infamous foreign interference operations in national media systems. Outcries over fake news, or dubious stories with the trappings of news, have coincided with the introduction of new media technologies that disrupt the publication, distribution and consumption of news - from the so-called rumour-mongering broadsheets centuries ago to the blogosphere recently. Designating a news organization as fake, or der Lügenpresse, has a darker history, associated with authoritarian regimes or populist bombast diminishing the reputation of 'elite media' and the value of inconvenient truths. 0In a series of empirical studies, using digital methods and data journalism, we inquire into the extent to which social media have enabled the penetration of foreign disinformation operations, the widespread publication and spread of dubious content as well as extreme commentators with considerable followings attacking mainstream media asfake.

    Inhalt: Die vorliegende Studie ergänzt den Forschungsstand zur Wirkung visueller Kommunikation politischer Akteure durch eine innovative Methodenkombination aus Eye-Tracking und Real-Time-Response-Messung. Die Studie untersucht, inwiefern nonverbales Verhalten sowohl die visuelle Aufmerksamkeit als auch die (spontanen) Urteile von RezipientInnen beeinflusst. Außerdem wird der Zusammenhang aus Blickverhalten und Urteilsbildung analysiert. Dazu sahen TeilnehmerInnen der Studie Videos von Politikerreden entweder mit oder ohne Ton. Befunde zeigen, dass spezifisches körpersprachliches Verhalten (z.B. emotionale Gesichtsausdrücke oder Handgesten) zum einen die visuelle Aufmerksamkeit lenkt. Zum anderen haben sowohl verbale Äußerungen als auch nonverbales Verhalten Auswirkungen auf die spontane Urteilsbildung über Politiker. Effekte nonverbaler Kommunikation treten insbesondere dann auf, wenn kein Ton verfügbar ist. Die Ergebnisse deuten zudem auf einzelne Zusammenhänge zwischen Blickverhalten und Urteilsbildung hin
    Inhalt: This study complements research on the effects of visual communication by politicians by combining eye tracking and real-time response measurement. It investigates the extent to which non-verbal behaviour affects the visual attention of and (spontaneous) impression formation among viewers, while also analysing the relationship between gaze behaviour and impression formation. Participants watched videos of political speeches either with or without sound. The results show that specific non-verbal behaviour (e.g. emotional facial expressions or hand gestures) direct visual attention. Furthermore, both verbal statements and non-verbal communication affect spontaneous opinion formation about politicians. The effects of non-verbal communication occur especially if no verbal information is available. Moreover, the results indicate some relation between attention distribution and impression formation

    Inhalt: When New German cinema directors like R. W. Fassbinder, Ulrike Ottinger, and Werner Schroeter explored issues of identity--national, political, personal, and sexual--music and film style played crucial roles. Most studies of the celebrated film movement, however, have sidestepped the role of music, a curious oversight given its importance to German culture and nation formation. Caryl Flinn's study reverses this trend, identifying styles of historical remembrance in which music participates. Flinn concentrates on those styles that urge listeners to interact with difference--including that embodied in Germany's difficult history--rather than to "master" or "get past" it. Flinn breaks new ground by considering contemporary reception frameworks of the New German Cinema, a generation after its end. She discusses transnational, cultural, and historical contexts as well as the sexual, ethnic, national, and historical diversity of audiences. Through detailed case studies, she shows how music helps filmgoers engage with a range of historical subjects and experiences. Each chapter of The New German Cinema examines a particular stylistic strategy, assessing music's role in each. The study also examines queer strategies like kitsch and camp and explores the movement's charged construction of human bodies on which issues of ruination, survival, memory, and pleasure are played out.

    Inhalt: The book deals in detail with the requirements of existing copyright exceptions, for libraries in German statutory copyright law. In Germany, the same as in all other EU member states, it is the rule that for copyright related "exploitations", such as copying, distribution, presentation or (internet-) communication to the public , there must exist a copyright exception or, if the conditions for such an exception are not met, the consent of the copyright holder must be provided. In 2018, especially for scientists, research and educational institutions, libraries and other cultural heritage institutions , new exceptions were created in Paragraphen 60a ff. of the German Copyright Act (UrhG). At the time of publication of this version of the book, the next copyright reform is on its way, namely the implementation of the "Copyright in the Digital Single Market" Directive ("DSM Directive"). This publication refers to the provisions of the Directive from the respective passages. The DSM Directive must be implemented into German law by June 7, 2021.
