Content: "From short paratactic sentences to frequent repetition and parallelisms, Donald Trump's idiolect is highly distinctive from that of previous Presidents of the USA. Combining quantitative and qualitative analyses, this book identifies the characteristic features of Trump's language and argues that his speech style, often underestimated by the media, is strategically implemented as a persuasive device. The chapters examine Trump's tweets, inaugural address, political speeches, interviews, presidential debates and reality TV appearances, revealing populist language traits that establish his idiolect as a direct reflection of changing social and political norms. Also scrutinised is Trump's deviant use of nicknames, the definite article and conceptual metaphors as strategies of othering and antagonising his opponents, which is tailored to a specific political purpose. Drawing on techniques from corpus linguistics, multimodality and critical discourse analysis, this book provides a multifaceted investigation of Trump's language use and addresses essential questions about Trump as a political phenomenon"

Content: Bringing together leading and emerging scholars, this book asks the question: how has contemporary South African literature grappled with ideas of time and history during the political transition away from apartheid? Reading the work of major South African writers such as J.M. Coetzee, Nadine Gordimer and Ivan Vladislavic as well as contemporary crime and science fiction, South African Writing in Transition explores how concerns about time and temporality have shaped literary form across the country's literary culture. Establishing new connections between leading literary voices and lesser known works, the book explores themes of truth and reconciliation, disappointment and betrayal--Provided by publisher

Content: "Ephraim Moses Lilien (1874-1925) was one of the most important Jewish artists of modern times. As a successful illustrator, photographer, painter and printer, he became the first major Zionist artist. Surprisingly there has been little in-depth scholarly research and analysis of Lilien's work available in English, making this book an important contribution to historical and art-historical scholarship. Concentrating mainly on his illustrations for journals and books, Lynne Swarts acknowledges the importance of Lilien's groundbreaking male iconography in Zionist art, but is the first to examine Lilien's complex and nuanced depiction of women, which comprised a major dimension of his work. Lilien's female images offer a compelling glimpse of an alternate, independent and often sexually liberated modern Jewish woman, a portrayal that often eluded the Zionist imagination. Using an interdisciplinary approach to integrate intellectual and cultural history with issues of gender, Jewish history and visual culture, Swarts also explores the important fin de siècle tensions between European and Oriental expressions of Jewish femininity. The work demonstrates that Lilien was not a minor figure in the European art scene, but a major figure whose work needs re-reading in light of his cosmopolitan and national artistic genius."

Content: "Since the 1960s, Charles Chadwyck-Healey has been at the forefront of library publishing and the company he founded in 1973 remains a familiar brand name to academic libraries around the world. In this wide ranging book, Chadwyck-Healey charts his personal history of this constantly changing field, from the earliest days of reprint publishing, through microfilm, microfiche and CD-ROM publishing to the current digital age. He describes the early years of using computers in publishing and the introduction of the CD-ROM which was soon supplanted by online. Chadwyck-Healey was one of the first publishers to use both these new media. Focusing upon leading publishing endeavours around the world - in the USA, UK, Europe and post-Soviet Russia - this book includes vivid and informative first-hand accounts of such landmark publishing projects as the US National Security Archive, the catalogue of the British Library on CD-ROM, and Literature Online (LION)."

    Series Statement: Deleuze encounters
Content: Deleuze's fondness for geography has long been recognized as central to his thought. This is the first book to introduce researchers to the breadth of his engagements with space, place and movement. Focusing on pressing global issues such as urbanization, war, migration, and climate change, Arun Saldanha presents a detailed Deleuzian rejoinder to a number of theoretical and political questions about globalization in a variety of disciplines. This systematic overview of moments in Deleuze's corpus where space is implicitly or explicitly theorized shows why he can be called the 20th century's most imaginative thinker of space. Space After Deleuze is the first book to make clear to a student audience how Deleuze and thinkers close to him (Guattari, Foucault, Marx, Darwin) allow for a robust and politically engaged framework for studying spatial phenomena such as cities, nation-states, climate change, migration and map art. Anyone with an interest in refining a wide range of concepts, from territory, assemblage, to body, event, and the Anthropocene will learn much from the "geophilosophy" which Deleuze and Guattari proposed for our critical times

Content: "Moldova is a new nation-state with a long history. Despite only recently gaining independence, following the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, Moldova's roots stretch all the way back to the Principality of Moldavia, established in 1359. After centuries toiling under Ottoman control, and latterly Russian Imperial rule, the Moldovans briefly tasted independence in the early twentieth century, before being annexed by the Soviet Union. In recent times, the Transnistrian Dispute has once again threatened the sovereignty, and indeed the independence, of Moldova and this conflict remains unresolved today. For the first time in English, this book places the problems of contemporary Moldova in a long-term historical perspective. It argues that the Moldovans' complex relations with the Russians and the West are not simply the product of the Soviet era but have their roots in earlier centuries. Haynes contends that the Moldovan lands, and Moldovan identity and culture, have long been contested: by the Roman and Byzantine Empires of antiquity, by the expanding Hungarian and Polish-Lithuanian kingdoms in the Middle Ages, by the Ottoman, Habsburg, Russian and Soviet empires in more recent centuries, and by the Romanian state. The book provides a political and cultural history of the growth and development of the medieval Principality of Moldova, the Principality's partition and Russian rule in Bessarabia from 1812, Bessarabia under Romanian rule in the inter-war period, Soviet Moldova and the independent Republic of Moldova."

Content: "In this major reassessment of J. M. Coetzee, which looks at Coetzee's full writing career thus far, Anthony Uhlmann illuminates the intellectual and philosophical interests that drive Coetzee's writing. In doing so, Uhlmann makes the case for Coetzee as an important and original thinker in his right. Whilst looking at Coetzee's writing career, from his dissertation through to The Schooldays of Jesus (2016), and interpreting running themes and scenarios, style, and evolving attitudes to form and genre, Uhlmann also offers revealing glimpses, informed by archival research, of Coetzee's writing process. Among the main themes that Uhlmann draws out from Coetzee's writing, and which remain highly relevant today, are the ideas that there is truth in fiction, or that fiction can provide valuable understandings of real world problems, and there are also fictions of the truth: that we are surrounded, in our everyday lives, with stories we tell ourselves which we wish to believe are true"

Content: Resilience : searching for new weapons while fleeing -- Global conjunctions of aesthetic resilience -- Artistic practices of embodied resilience
Content: "This book examines how renewed forms of artistic activism were developed in the wake of the neoliberal repression since the 1980s. The volume shows the diverse ways in which artists have sought to confront systemic crises around the globe, searching for new and enduring forms of building communities and reimagining the political horizon. The authors engage in a dialogue with these artistic efforts and their histories - in particular the earlier artistic activism that was developed during the civil rights era in the 1960s and 70s - providing valuable historical insight and new conceptual reflection on the future of aesthetic resilience. This book will be of interest to scholars in contemporary art, history of art, film and literary studies, protest movements, and social movements"--

Series Statement: Suspensions, contemporary Middle Eastern and Islamicate thought
Content: "A crucial analysis of political events in the contemporary Middle East, demonstrating that the Middle East is not "other.""--
Content: "On the Arab Revolts and the Iranian Revolution: Power and Resistance Today is the first comparative analysis of two central political events that have altered our world forever: the Arab uprisings which started in Tunisia, and the Iranian revolution in 1979. Adib-Moghaddam demonstrates how contemporary forms of protest are changing our understanding about the way power and resistance function. In a theoretical tour de force which is substantiated with a range of primary material, he argues that acts of protest in Tehran to Cairo can be entirely linked to the same act in New York, London, Madrid and Athens. Breaking through the east/west, north/south divide, Adib-Moghaddam shows how the Arab revolts promise to shift the discourse away from the idea that Arabs and Muslims are peculiar, that "Middle Eastern Studies" cannot be linked to political theory, that the dynamics of rebellion "there" are fundamentally different from the politics of revolt "here". Adib-Moghaddam argues that the dialectics of power and resistance are truly universal and that they are unfolding within a globalised political context that is increasingly interconnected. In order to illuminate this argument theoretically, the study is organised around conceptual terms that feed into forms of power and resistance, such as revolution, radicalism, dissent, knowledge, neighbour and reform. These terms and concepts are discussed and deconstructed via an empirical discussion of pivotal events beyond the non-western world, demonstrating that for a long time, and without realising it, we have been living in the end times of unitary categories such as "west" and "east.""--
