ID-A 24/12).

Gern empfohlen. [Kirsten Brodmann]

Content: "'The Renaissance of Etching' is a groundbreaking study of the origins of the etched print. Initially used as a method for decorating armor, etching was reimagined as a printmaking technique at the end of the fifteenth century in Germany and spread rapidly across Europe. Unlike engraving and woodcut, which required great skill and years of training, the comparative ease of etching allowed a wide variety of artists to exploit the expanding market for prints. The early pioneers of the medium include some of the greatest artists of the Renaissance, such as Albrecht Dürer, Parmigianino, and Pieter Bruegel the Elder, who paved the way for future printmakers like Rembrandt, Goya, and many others in their wake. Remarkably, contemporary artists still use etching in much the same way as their predecessors did five hundred years ago. Richly illustrated and including a wealth of new information, 'The Renaissance of Etching' explores how artists in Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, and France developed the new medium of etching, and how it became one of the most versatile and enduring forms of printmaking.".
Content: The first comprehensive look at the origins and diffusion across Europe of the etched print during the late 15th and early 16th centuries. The etching of images on metal, originally used as a method for decorating armor, was first employed as a printmaking technique at the end of the 15th century. This in-depth study explores the origins of the etched print, its evolution from decorative technique to fine art, and its spread across Europe in the early Renaissance, leading to the professionalization of the field in the Netherlands in the 1550s. Beautifully illustrated, this book features the work of familiar Renaissance artists, including Albrecht Durer, Jan Gossart, Pieter Breughel the Elder, and Parmigianino, as well as lesser known practitioners, such as Daniel Hopfer and Lucas van Leyden, whose pioneering work paved the way for later printmakers like Rembrandt and Goya. The book also includes a clear and fascinating description of the etching process, as well as an investigation of how the medium allowed artists to create highly detailed prints that were more durable than engravings and more delicate than woodblocks. Content: "Planet on the page. Over 300 historic and contemporary Infographics explaining our remarkable, fragile world. Gigantic and frail at the same time, our world keeps changing at high speed. New communication technologies have downsized the distances between far away continents. Data processing and network systems are changing our ways of living and working. Each second social networks are distributing myriads of information and news. Traditional mindsets are constantly being challenged and it is not easy to keep up with this evolution. This book presents a visual atlas of the world, focusing on the first quarter of the 21st century in a broad collection of information graphics, but also presenting many historical graphics from the last 150 years, putting our current situation into perspective. Divided into five big chapters, the book collects a cross-section of data from a variety of fields. How have political and economical weights shifted globally since the beginning of the century? How does the pending threat of climate change shape our thinking? More than 300 historic and contemporary infographics from sources such as Fortune, National Geographic, or The Guardian illuminate not just design professionals, they provide answers for everyone who is eager to understand how our world works. Nigel Holmes, one of the masters of information design introduces the book to the reader, and illustrated with over 20 images the historical essay by Sandra Rendgen frames how we have been looking at our world numbers for centuries."

Content: A lavishly illustrated reference guide, Cartography by Kenneth Field is an inspiring and creative companion along the nonlinear journey toward designing a great map. This compendium for contemporary mapmaking distils the essence of cartography into useful topics, organized alphabetically, for convenience in finding the specific method or subject you need. Unlike books targeted toward deep scholarly discourse of cartographic theory, this book provides sound, visually compelling information that translates into practical ideas for modern mapmaking. At the intersection of science and art, Cartography serves as a guidepost for designing an accurate and effective map and makes a strong statement about the worth of cartography and cartographic thinking
