Inhalt: 〈P〉〈em〉En tierras de Hércules〈/em〉 explores the history and archaeological heritage of the southwest coast of the Isla Gaditana - the territory where the Temple of Hercules and the Idol of Cádiz are said to have stood for more than twelve centuries: Torregorda, Camposoto and Sancti Petri.〈/p〉〈p〉The text examines the occupation sequence of Palaeolithic, Neolithic, Bronze-Age and historic societies in the area. In addition, it analyses the shaping of the landscape by geological, sedimentary and human action since the Phoenician settlement. The historical region of the Strait of Gibraltar, considered the end of the 'known world' until the modern age, is studied as an intercontinental and cultural bridge.〈/p〉〈p〉The core of the work is an examination of 32 groups of remains, classified according to communicational, strategic and environmental factors. This includes those relating to the underwater site of the Sancti Petri Castle, which are usually associated with the Temple of Hercules. Using manuscripts from local archives, the book documents elements such as the emergence of the underwater remains of the Temple of Hercules or the construction of canals and defensive architecture. And by means of prehistoric rock art, it examines the origins of sailing in the vicinity of Gibraltar. A final chapter recommends the investigation of the millenary intersection between the Rio Arillo channel and the Calzada de La Alcantarilla road.〈/p〉

Inhalt: Over the past twenty years, the knowledge and understanding of wastewater treatment has advanced extensively and moved away from empirically based approaches to a fundamentally-based first principles approach embracing chemistry, microbiology, and physical and bioprocess engineering, often involving experimental laboratory work and techniques. Many of these experimental methods and techniques have matured to the degree that they have been accepted as reliable tools in wastewater treatment research and practice. For sector professionals, especially a new generation of young scientists and engineers entering the wastewater treatment profession, the quantity, complexity and diversity of these new developments can be overwhelming, particularly in developing countries where access to advanced level laboratory courses in wastewater treatment is not readily available. In addition, information on innovative experimental methods is scattered across scientific literature and only partially available in the form of textbooks or guidelines. This book seeks to address these deficiencies. It assembles and integrates the innovative experimental methods developed by research groups and practitioners around the world. Experimental Methods in Wastewater Treatment forms part of the internet-based curriculum in wastewater treatment at UNESCO-IHE and, as such, may also be used together with video records of experimental methods performed and narrated by the authors including guidelines on what to do and what not to do. The book is written for undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers, laboratory staff, plant operators, consultants, and other sector professionals.

Inhalt: From the perspective of Latin American Studies, this volume offers a critical contribution to the current debate on world literature. It is structured around three conceptual blocks: "gatekeepers", as the dispositives and actors mediating the international circulation of literature; "translation", as an unavoidable but always problematic mechanism; and "local literatures", as modes of writing that remain intrinsically tied to their contexts.

Inhalt: ¿Cómo ingresa la literatura en circulación internacional? ¿Qué factores regulan dicho proceso? ¿Qué transformaciones sufre cuando lo hace? ¿Qué sucede con la que nunca lo consigue o se lo propone? Con foco en la literatura que, de acuerdo con postulados teóricos diseñados en los años 60, es concebida como latinoamericana y con contribuciones de destacados investigadores de diferentes lugares de Europa, América Latina y EE. UU., el volumen Literatura latinoamericana mundial intenta ser un aporte crítico al actual debate sobre literatura mundial. Tres bloques conceptuales, que también son tres de los principales núcleos en torno a los cuales gira la discusión, lo organizan: "gatekeepers", con foco en los dispositivos, actores o instituciones que vehiculizan u obturan la circulación internacional de literatura; "traducción", con reflexiones acerca de este mecanismo ineludible, pero siempre problemático, para que la literatura trascienda fronteras nacionales; y "literaturas locales", concentrado en escrituras y proyectos que, al permanecer aferrados a contextos específicos, constituyen el lado negado de ciertos modelos hegemónicos de la teoría de la literatura mundial.
