Content: The first monographic publication in English on German Expressionist artist and architect Paul Goesch, whose extraordinary architectural fantasies were produced while he was institutionalized for schizophrenia. Artist and architect Paul Goesch (1885–1940) created one of the most inventive, peculiar, and poignant bodies of work to emerge from Weimar Germany. His vibrant drawings teem with invented ornament and resemble little else made then or since. Goesch, who exhibited widely in avant-garde circles, did so while institutionalized for schizophrenia—a condition for which he was ultimately murdered by the Nazi regime. This monograph makes Goesch’s extraordinary creations accessible to an English-speaking audience for the first time. It presents more than thirty examples of his drawings from the collection of the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal, as well as work by his peers in the Expressionist "Glass Chain" group. Goesch’s subject matter is mainly arches, passageways, and portals, which are taken here as a metaphor for the artist’s anthroposophic beliefs and altered states and his liminal status as both an insider and outsider, whom critics have never been able to categorize clearly. The authors discuss Goesch’s production and reception and posit his enduring art historical significance.

Content: Headdresses and coverings are among the most powerful vehicles of cultural identity, referring variously to nationality, gender, ethnicity, religion, profession and sub-culture. As part of a cultural identity, they can be used to distinguish or divide people, but may also serve as a constructive instrument that allows us to recognise mutual differences as a common value. Cultural identity is continuously evolving. Photos and texts provide a vehicle to question prevailing dynamics of identity and identification, visual stereotypes and cultural representation. Daniela Dossi's long-term residency at the open and collective studio Manoeuvre, a multidisciplinary artist-run space in Ghent's Rabot neighbourhood, resulted in an open design method, a textile research project based on a visual and textual archive of headdresses from around the world, and a preliminary collection of hybrid headdresses. The super-diversity of the studio provided the ideal context for this research. Together with Dossi, participants from diverse backgrounds and origins made 800 textile samples by hand using different techniques. Based on this open system, new hybrid headdresses and narratives can be designed by remixing images, texts and textiles: what might the headdress of the first Mexican, female President of the United States look like, for example? 'Hybrid Heads' is a project by Daniela Dossi and Manoeuvre. It is also an exhibition, an interactive installation, a web platform and a design-educational programme.

Content: Born in South Africa in 1972, Zanele Muholi came to prominence in the early 2000s with photographs that sought to envision black lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, and intersex lives beyond deviance or victimhood. Muholi's work challenges hetero-patriarchal ideologies and representations, presenting the participants in their photographs as confident and beautiful individuals bravely existing in the face of prejudice, intolerance, and, frequently, violence. While Muholi's intimate photographs of others launched their international career, their intense self-portraits solidified it. Content: "No It Is!" documents two recent major presentations of work by South African artist William Kentridge (born 1955): his exhibition at the Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin and his performances at the Berliner Festspiele in summer 2016. This artist’s book incorporates a libretto for a performed guided tour of the exhibition--a performance which is both a guide to the exhibition and an exhibit within it--and writings by or conversations with Kentridge about the two projects. The exhibition includes early drawings, animated films, installations, large-scale projections such as More Sweetly Play the Dance and theatrical pieces ranging from Winterreise, an evening of Schubert lieder, collaborations with the Handspring Puppet Company and chamber opera. In the performance series, titled Drawing Lessons, Kentridge discusses his working methods and his political context, from the Apartheid era to the present.

Content: "British artist Mark Neville moved home and studio from London to live in Kyiv, Ukraine, last year. With 100,000 Russian troops amassed on the Ukrainian border and the whole country on the cusp of war, Neville’s book project, Stop Tanks With Books, calls on the international community to urgently support Ukraine and help deter further Russian invasion.
