Inhalt: This publication deals with current labor market issues in Japan, Germany and the European Union. In the book, the "labor market" serves as central focus point, yet the methodology of addressing this focus point is very broad. It includes the analysis of the general labor market development and its conditions in the European Union and in Japan as well as more specific investigations, such as the impact of fiscal policies, exchange rates or information technology on the demand for labor. The book also focusses on the single firm level, particularly on organizational performance, worktime flexibility and on occupational health and safety management. Other contributions address specific subsectors of the economy, such as the role of the female workforce in Japan, the development of the rural labor market in East Germany or the comparative impact of international workforce migrations in Hungary and in Japan. The results of the book, which reflect the outcome of an international conference at the University of Freiburg in 1996, may help to understand in more detail one of the most complex and serious problems of today's society and to find ways for its solution

Als Herzstück kann die Untersuchung der rechtlich komplexen Fragestellung bezeichnet werden, wie sich die einzelnen beim Spielertransfer geschlossenen Verträge im Falle der anfechtungsbedingten Unwirksamkeit eines oder mehrerer dieser Verträge rechtlich zueinander verhalten. Abschließend wird unter Berücksichtigung der Untersuchungsergebnisse die Anfechtungsentscheidung selbst untersucht und Leitlinien für die Entscheidungsfindung entwickelt.

Inhalt: The thesis deals with the prerequisites and legal consequences of the contestation (Anfechtung) of transfer transactions in professional sports, taking into account the typical case constellations. The core of the work is the examination of the legally complex question of how the individual contracts concluded in the transfer of players relate to each other in the event of the invalidity of one or more of these contracts due to contestation. Considering the results of the study, the decision to contest is examined and guidelines for the decision-making process are developed.

Inhalt: This book contains the revised and updated versions of twelve papers which were presented at the 17th joint seminar of the faculties of economics of the Universities of Nagoya and Freiburg. The seminar took place in 1997 in Nagoya and marked the 25th anniversary of the cooperation between both faculties. The subjects of the book concentrate on long-term economic and business issues common to Japan and Germany on the turn of our century. -- Firstly, both countries experience continuing and interrelated problems in the labor market, budget deficits, demographic changes and the future of the social security system. Secondly, globalization, technical progress and shift of social values lead to structural changes of the economy and its institutions, particularly to deregulations and network economies. As a consequence, new ways of cooperation between firms, customers and suppliers will be established. Thirdly, the network economy changes also the inner structure and management of the companies in both countries including new organizational patterns such as the holding company or the virtual enterprise, the tight cooperation of small and medium-sized companies, human resource management and compensation. -- Although the broad issues in both countries - as in other mature economies - are essentially the same, the details under the surface are different and therefore ask for different solutions. The identification of these similarities and differences by theoretical and empirical methods constituted a key objective of the seminar, as well as of previous seminars

Inhalt: The book deals in detail with the requirements of existing copyright exceptions, for libraries in German statutory copyright law. In Germany, the same as in all other EU member states, it is the rule that for copyright related "exploitations", such as copying, distribution, presentation or (internet-) communication to the public , there must exist a copyright exception or, if the conditions for such an exception are not met, the consent of the copyright holder must be provided. In 2018, especially for scientists, research and educational institutions, libraries and other cultural heritage institutions , new exceptions were created in §§ 60a ff. of the German Copyright Act (UrhG). At the time of publication of this version of the book, the next copyright reform is on its way, namely the implementation of the "Copyright in the Digital Single Market" Directive ("DSM Directive"). This publication refers to the provisions of the Directive from the respective passages. The DSM Directive must be implemented into German law by June 7, 2021.

Inhalt: In 1960 and 1961, a group of young Indonesians ­completed their studies in Berlin and Hanover with a degree in architecture (Diplom-Ingenieur Architektur; in Indonesian: Dipl.-Ing. Arsitek). Most of these graduates returned to Indonesia. At that time, the country sought independent forms of built expression to represent a modern civil society with contemporary structures that would reflect the culture and accommodate the climate. During this highly dynamic period, those who returned soon became influential architects in their homeland. Around a third of the graduates remained in Europe, where they pursued successful architectural careers in Germany, Switzerland, or the Netherlands. Using the final diploma projects of ten of those students as a starting point, Dipl.-Ing. Arsitek: German-trained ­Indonesian Architects from the 1960s provides multi­faceted insights into this little-known aspect of German-­Indonesian relations. Many of the cited plans and documents come from the architects’ personal archives and are now available to the public for the first time. Fifteen exemplary buildings are documented in their current context in new photographs produced for this project, highlighting their unique characteristics and qualities.
