Content: "Hegemony and World Order explores a key question for our tumultuous times of multiple global crises. Does hegemony - that is, legitimated rule by dominant power - have a role in ordering world politics of the twenty-first century? If so, what form does that hegemony take: does it lie with a leading state or with some other force? How does contemporary world hegemony operate: what tools does it use and what outcomes does it bring? This volume addresses these questions by assembling perspectives from various regions across the world, including Canada, Central Asia, China, Europe, India, Russia, and the USA. The contributions in this book span diverse theoretical perspectives from realism to postcolonialism, as well as multiple issue areas such as finance, the internet, migration, and warfare. By exploring the role of non-state actors, transnational networks, and norms, this collection covers various standpoints and moves beyond traditional concepts of state-based hierarches centred on material power. The result is a wealth of novel insights on today's changing dynamics of world politics. Hegemony and World Order is critical reading for policymakers and advanced students of International Relations, Global Governance, Development, and International Political Economy"--

Content: "How do ordinary people survive wartime violence when it arrives in their neighborhood? When confronted with the threat of violence, how do individuals decide whether to stay in their homes or flee? For those who stay, what factors determine whether individuals cooperate or contend with insurgent governance? Since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003 up to the formation of the Islamic State, Iraqis from different walks of life have confronted existential decisions about how to survive political violence. Despite facing similar threats and limited resources, some people fled their homes while others remained. Among those who stayed, most hid, others resisted, some remained nonaligned, and a select few collaborated. In this book, Austin J. Knuppe draws on fieldwork in Baghdad and Iraqi Kurdistan, along with UN migration data, to illustrate how individuals drew upon a combination of routines, tools, and rhetorical strategies to navigate violent situations. Knuppe finds that Iraqis belonging to communities with limited cohesion and capacity survived by fleeing to safer areas under the protection of rival security providers. For those who stayed, the ability of communities to pursue cooperation, contention, or neutrality depended not only on the cohesion and capacity of the community, but also the resolve and combat effectiveness of the anti-IS coalitions. This account gives voice to ordinary Iraqis who were forced to make hard choices during times of intense danger and uncertainty, and sheds new light on the repertoires civilians employ when faced with war"--

Content: Throughout the modern age, revolutions have spread across state borders, engulfing entire regions, continents, and, at times, the globe. Revolutionary World examines the spread of upheavals during the major revolutionary moments in modern history: the Atlantic Revolutions, Europe's 1848 revolts, the commune movement of the 1870s, the 1905-15 upheavals in Asia, the communist revolutions around 1917, the 'Wilsonian' uprisings of 1919, the 'Third World' revolutions, the global Islamic revolt of 1978-79, the events of 1989, and the rise and fall of the 'Arab Spring'. The chapters explore the nature of these revolutionary waves, tracing the exchange of radical ideas and the movements of revolutionaries around the world. Bringing together a group of distinguished historians, Revolutionary World shows that the major revolutions of the modern age, which have so often been studied as isolated national or imperial events, were almost never contained within state borders and were usually part of broader revolutionary moments
