Regisseur Andreas Kriegenburg geht mit seiner Inszenierung am SchauspielhausHannover ein doppeltes Wagnis ein: Er inszeniert das linear erzählende Stück als grell-rasante Konsum-Farce, als buntes und choreographiertes Spektakel. Und er lässt nach der Pause im Foyer das Theaterpublikum als stumme Statisten in der entscheidenden Volksversammlung die Rolle des Volkes spielen. / Der Kurarzt Doktor Stockmann hatte einst die erfolgreiche Idee, in seiner Heimatstadt einen Kur- und Badebetrieb zu gründen. Inzwischen hat er herausgefunden, dass unter anderem der Betrieb seines Schwiegervaters das Wasser verseucht. Er lässt Gutachten erstellen und will den gesundheitsgefährdenden Zustand des Heilwassers, dem die Provinzstadt ihren finanziellen Aufschwung verdankt, öffentlich bekannt machen, um die Schließung der Bäder und den Bau einer Kläranlage in Angriff zu nehmen. Die Obrigkeit, vertreten durch den Bürgermeister, Stockmanns Bruder, setzt jedoch ihre Version der Wahrheit durch. Der Ruf des Kurortes darf nicht gefährdet, die Stadtkasse nicht belastet werden. Auch die forschen Zeitungsredakteure, die sich anfangs der Skandalmeldung widmen wollten, schwenken bald um ins Lager der Verhinderer und Vertuscher. [http://theaterkanal.zdf.de]
