NEWS OF SPIRITUAL LIFE MUSLIMS CELEBRATE ID AL KORBAN As in previous years the holiday of Id al Korban has been celebrated in a grand way at all the mosques of Central Asia and Kazakh stan. During the holiday the Muslims of the USSR turned their eyes towards the Holy Kaaba to gain spiritual comfort. During the holiday His Eminence mufti Ziyautdin khan ibn Babakhan and other pro minent theologians delivered sermons at the Tillya-Sheikh mosque in Tashkent. Through powerful loudspeakers the sermons were trans mitted to the square outside the grand mosque where big crowds of Muslims believers were gathered. The sermons alternated with read ings from the Holy Koran and among those who mounted the rhostrum to read the Holy Koran was an esteemed guest from Pakistan sheikh Zaher al-Kaseini, who had arrived in Tashkent on the eve of the holiday. After prayers His Eminence Ziyautdin khan ibn Babakhan mounted the carpet-clad rhost rum and delivered a Khutba. In his address he thanked the Almighty and praised His Prophet Muhammad (may the blessings of Allah be with him). The mufti then called upon all Mus lims to maintain religious honesty, spiritual pieity and ideal morale within the framework of a just society and lasting peace. There were holiday services at all the mosques of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kirghizia and other parts of Central Asia. The faithful attended prayers with great spiritual satisfac tion. In Dushanbe, capital of Tajikistan, Mus lims filled the Haji Yakub, Mavlana Yakub Charki, Sariasio and other mosques from early morning. The imam-khatib of the Karamirishkar mos que sheikh al-Haj Abdumalik Rakhim delive red a big sermon in which he drew the atten tion of the faithful to problems of vital concern for their brethren in faith abroad, namely Is rael’s aggressive course aimed at encroaching on the rights of the Arab peoples. Sheikh Abdu malik stressed in his sermon that under these circumstances particular significance was at tached to unity among the Muslims of the world in curbing the aggressor and ensuring peace. He called on the falthlul to strengthen friendship for the sake of the faith, peace and justice. The imam-khatib of the mosque in Termez sheikh Abed Siddik spoke in his holiday sermon of the significance of the teachings of Islam. He commented on the spiritual world of Mus lims, on adherence to the tenets of Islam with regards to prayers and fasting. The sheikh also stressed the necessity of strengthening the conviction of each Muslim in accordance with the moral requirements of the present age. Reports coming in from all parts of the USSR speak of the fact that Muslims observed Id a! Korban with great fervour and offered prayers for the welfare of mankind and its prosperity. The faithful prayed Allah to be merciful to his servants, to send them His blessings and mercy. On the occasion of the holiday the Muslim Religious Board for Central Asia and Kazakh stan received numerous messages of congratu lations from all parts of the Soviet Union and also from abroad. In its turn the Board con gratulated all the Muslims of the country and brethren in faith abroad on the occasion of Id al Korban and wished them prosperity, happi ness and every success in the construction of a new life. * * *
