Bis in kleinste Alltagsdetails genau zeichnet die Autorin (zuletzt "Wie der Wind und das Meer", ID-A 43/17) Lebensbedingungen und Lebensgefühle der 1930er- und 1940er-Jahre nach, in denen sich die knapp 17-jährige Jüdin Aliza nach unfassbaren Erlebnissen aus Berlin mit einem Kindertransport nach England retten kann. Todtraurig jedoch über die Trennung von ihrer Familie, die der Brutalität der Nazis und dem perfiden Doppelspiel eines raffgierigen Blockwarts ausgesetzt bleibt und untröstbar über die Trennung von ihrer großen Liebe Fabian. Der Schatz seiner Briefe und die Hoffnung auf ein Wiedersehen begleiten sie durch harte Jahre ohne Nachricht. - Atmosphärisch dicht erzählt der Roman von herzensguten und abgrundtief bösen Menschen, von furchtbaren Schicksalsschlägen und großer Tragik und entlässt doch mit einem anrührenden Happy End - das ist der Stoff, der überall geliebt wird, allen Größen sehr empfohlen.
