Mittlerweile ist beinahe jede Unternehmung von der Globalisierung der MĂ€rkte, Branchen und Wettbewerber betroffen. Allerdings stellt die Internationalisierung fĂŒr Klein- und Mittelbetriebe eine besondere Herausforderung dar. So können knappe Ressourcen, geringe Auslandserfahrungen oder ein Mangel an ausgewogenen Internationalisierungsstrategien den Erfolg von KMU auf internationalen MĂ€rkten gefĂ€hrden. Damit das Internationalisierungspotenzial von KMU zielgerichteter genutzt werden kann, ist es erforderlich, Erfolgsfaktoren der Internationalisierung speziell fĂŒr den Mittelstand zu identifizieren. Vor diesem Hintergrund diskutiert der Autor unternehmungsspezifische Ressourcen, auslandsmarktbezogene Unternehmungskompetenzen, Motive der Internationalisierung, Internationalisierungsstrategien sowie die AuslandsmarktattraktivitĂ€t als potenzielle Einflussfaktoren auf den Internationalisierungserfolg, um einen Bezugsrahmen fĂŒr erfolgreiche AktivitĂ€ten auf AuslandsmĂ€rkten zu erhalten. Auf Basis sowohl theoretisch als auch empirisch ermittelter Erfolgsfaktoren der Internationalisierung entwickelt der Verfasser einen einzelfallbezogenen strategischen Planungsprozess, der letztlich in einer "Internationalisierungs-Scorecard" zur Kontrolle und Steuerung von Auslandsengagements resultiert. Dabei wird, neben der Darstellung weiterer Handlungsempfehlungen fĂŒr die Managementpraxis, aufgezeigt, wie eine spezifische Unternehmung ihr Internationalisierungspotenzial sowie ihre auslandsmarktbezogenen StĂ€rken und SchwĂ€chen im Vergleich zu den erhobenen Daten von 151 KMU ermitteln kann.
