Today, literally any political, economic or aesthetic phenomenon will seem incomprehensible if not viewed through the lens of 'social networks'. Sociology, historiography and art history are well equipped for this conundrum: These disciplines can rely on an adequate and long-standing foundation of network theory. This, however, is not the case for literary and cultural studies. Here, networks and network research are still rare and under-theorized. The present volume aims to help close this gap.
Inhalt: Networks and worknets (Bruno Latour) take us beyond the traditional, 'strong' concepts of subjectivity that prevail even in postcolonial studies: i.e. beyond an emphasis on individual experience, struggle and emancipation. Consisting of multiple and disperse "affinités déspatialisées" (Boltanski/Chiapello), networks also leave the 'spatial turn' and its massive reliance on physical extension behind. This volume offers an introduction to network research from a Romance Studies perspective. It features a series of international contributions on artistic and social networks in the Americas, the Caribbean and Europe. By focusing on the historical period between the Mexican Revolution and the fall of the Berlin Wall, this volume highlights an epoch that - through a digitally networked public sphere - is regaining its relevance today

Inhalt: Trafülkantun is an eclectic study of the relationship between two exceptional figures around the middle of the 20th century: Pablo Garrido Vargas (1905-1982), jazz pioneer, historian of the cueca and leader for the labor rights of musicians and artists, along with Juan Curilem Millanguir (1912-1985), Mapuche intellectual descendant of the Longko family, state professor, musician and choral director, president of the political organization Unión Araucana. Their mutual work shows an unexplored collaborative, intercultural and anti-colonial power, very early for the time. The structure of the book consists of a critical study, the commented edition of five unpublished texts by both authors and seven ülkantun/ songs compiled by Curilem plus annexes

Inhalt: Populists and the Pandemic examines the responses of populist political actors and parties in 22 countries around the globe to the COVID-19 pandemic, in terms of their attitudes, rhetoric, mobilization repertoires, and policy proposals. The responses of some populist leaders have received much public attention, as they denied the severity of the public health crisis, denigrated experts and data, looked for scapegoats, encouraged protests, questioned the legitimacy of liberal institutions, spread false information, and fueled conspiracies. But how widespread are those particular reactions? How much variation is there? What explains the variation that does exist? This volume considers these questions through critical analysis of countries in the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa, by leading experts with deep knowledge of their respective cases. Some chapters focus on populist parties, others on charismatic populist leaders. Some countries examined are democracies, others autocracies. Some populists are left wing, others right wing. Some populists are in government, others in opposition. This variation allows for a panoramic consideration of factors that systematically influence or mediate populist responses to the pandemic. The book thus makes a unique contribution to our understanding of the intersection between two of the most pressing social and political challenges of our time. The book will be of interest to all those researching populism, extremism, and political parties and those more broadly interested in political science, public policy, sociology, communications, and economics

Inhalt: Postmemories: Latin American and European Perspectives. Is it possible to delimit an intellectual, cultural and artistic production in Europe and Latin America, as well as a political, militant and legal praxis, proper to the After Generations? What approach to the political violence of the European and Latin American 20th century characterizes them? How do the concepts and reflections linked to the conformation of a transcultural memory (traveling memory, connective memory, diasporic memory) which establish a complex movement of interaction in the memorial debates of a globalized space operate? What theoretical premises underlie the diversity of categories that attempt to discern the complex nature of these memories: postmemory, mémoire interdite, mémoire trouée/blessée, mémoire absente, prosthetic memory, among others? What roles are rehearsed by these children, these heirs, who receive the weight of a violent history in which they have not been the protagonists and which they nonetheless rework? The stories told by these different layers of After Generations are the subject of this collective book, which brings together 28 researchers specialized in various linguistic and cultural areas to propose syntheses or case studies on "post-memories" from Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Brazil, Peru and Central America, on the one hand, and from Spain, Italy, Portugal, Central Europe and the countries of the former Soviet bloc, on the other

Inhalt: During the genesis of the Americas, "invention" was not the same thing as "discovery": what was invented preceded what was found and changed that discovery to the extent that both mutually permeated each other. This formed the foundation for both the indigenous population and their "discoverers," for deported slaves and for procured coolies. This lecture volume traces this process in detail, which still continues to this day

Inhalt: Groupwork with Refugees and Survivors of Human Rights Abuses describes, explores and promotes the power of groupwork for refugees and survivors of human rights abuses in a range of contexts. Drawing on multiple theoretical approaches, the book features chapters from practitioners running groups in different settings, such as torture rehabilitation services, refugee camps, and reception centres. The voices of participants demonstrate the variety, creativity, and value of group and community approaches for recovery. The editors have gathered chapters into three sections covering: community-based approaches; groups that work through the medium of ""body and soul""; and group approaches that focus on change through the spoken word. The book will be relevant to those working in rehabilitation, community, mental health, and humanitarian fields and are interested in using groupwork as part of their services
