"Künstliche Seen, schwimmende Häuser, ein Lagunendorf: Die Internationale Bauausstellung in der Lausitz zeigt, wie einer früheren Industrieregion die Verwandlung zur Kultur- und Freizeitlandschaft gelingen kann. Schon immer haben Internationale Bauausstellungen ('IBA') auf brennende Fragen der Zeit reagiert. Die Interbau 1957 half etwa, den Wiederaufbau West-Berlins zu organisieren. Berühmte Architekten aus aller Welt entwarfen damals mustergültige Häuser. Und vor zehn Jahren beispielsweise präsentierte die IBA Emscherpark ein grünes und sauberes Ruhrgebiet. Nun trifft die Internationale Bauausstellung im Fürst-Pückler-Land, einer Region in der ostdeutschen Lausitz, erneut den Zeitgeist. Doch diesmal geht es nicht um Architektur, sondern um die Rekultivierung einer ganzen Industrieregion. Die Lausitz soll ihr Schmuddel-Image verlieren: Dort, wo der Kohletagebau großflächige Brachen hinterlassen hatte, entsteht eine attraktive Seenlandschaft. Im Info- und Ausstellungszentrum Großräschen wird jetzt eine vorläufige Bilanz gezogen." -- "Artificial lakes, floating houses, a lagoon village: the international building exhibition in Lusatia shows how a former industrial region can be transformed into a cultural and leisure landscape.
