Als Seelsorgende im Krankenhaus versuchen Wortmann und sein Team, besonders Menschen am Lebensende und deren Angehörigen hilfreich zur Seite zu stehen. Mit dem eingetretenen Tod endet in der Regel ihre Begleitung. Alle weiteren Schritte gehen eigentlich in die Obhut der Gemeindepfarrerinnen und -pfarrer über. Dennoch nehmen Seelsorgende im Krankenhaus immer wieder wahr, dass Trauernde den Kontakt zu der Krankenhausseelsorge suchen, auch wenn nicht immer gleich klar ist, was sie eigentlich zu finden hoffen.
