    Content: By combining the perspectives of discourse, media and literary history, this book shows that awareness of the category of individuality, and therefore the emergence of modern case law thinking, was only generated at the end of the 18th century through the publication of collections of cases in journals. With recourse to Fleck’s concept of journal theory, this book examines this medium as the agency that organised the case material and that corresponded to the genre of case reports because of its heterogeneity, provisional nature and discursiveness. Analysing case reports in the context of their publication in periodicals highlights that cases should not be regarded as isolated individual texts, but that their forms and functions can only be understood if they are examined within an intertextual framework of series of images, further processing and discussions. This book classes authors and psychologists such as Herz, Moritz, Wezel, Hoffbauer, Reil, Maimon, Trapp, Bendavid, Conz or Müllner as being part of a culture of debate which overrides networks of journals. Furthermore, there is not only a connection between collections of cases and literary discourse in terms of their overlapping themes, but also through their adaptation of literary forms of narration in the construction of cases

Disinformation, or the willful introduction of false information for the purposes of causing harm, recalls infamous foreign interference operations in national media systems. Outcries over fake news, or dubious stories with the trappings of news, have coincided with the introduction of new media technologies that disrupt the publication, distribution and consumption of news - from the so-called rumour-mongering broadsheets centuries ago to the blogosphere recently. Die Studie untersucht, inwiefern nonverbales Verhalten sowohl die visuelle Aufmerksamkeit als auch die (spontanen) Urteile von RezipientInnen beeinflusst. Außerdem wird der Zusammenhang aus Blickverhalten und Urteilsbildung analysiert. Dazu sahen TeilnehmerInnen der Studie Videos von Politikerreden entweder mit oder ohne Ton. Befunde zeigen, dass spezifisches körpersprachliches Verhalten (z.B. emotionale Gesichtsausdrücke oder Handgesten) zum einen die visuelle Aufmerksamkeit lenkt. Zum anderen haben sowohl verbale Äußerungen als auch nonverbales Verhalten Auswirkungen auf die spontane Urteilsbildung über Politiker. Effekte nonverbaler Kommunikation treten insbesondere dann auf, wenn kein Ton verfügbar ist. Die Ergebnisse deuten zudem auf einzelne Zusammenhänge zwischen Blickverhalten und Urteilsbildung hin
    Content: This study complements research on the effects of visual communication by politicians by combining eye tracking and real-time response measurement. It investigates the extent to which non-verbal behaviour affects the visual attention of and (spontaneous) impression formation among viewers, while also analysing the relationship between gaze behaviour and impression formation. Participants watched videos of political speeches either with or without sound. The results show that specific non-verbal behaviour (e.g. emotional facial expressions or hand gestures) direct visual attention. Furthermore, both verbal statements and non-verbal communication affect spontaneous opinion formation about politicians. The effects of non-verbal communication occur especially if no verbal information is available. Moreover, the results indicate some relation between attention distribution and impression formation

    Content: When New German cinema directors like R. W. Fassbinder, Ulrike Ottinger, and Werner Schroeter explored issues of identity--national, political, personal, and sexual--music and film style played crucial roles. Most studies of the celebrated film movement, however, have sidestepped the role of music, a curious oversight given its importance to German culture and nation formation. Caryl Flinn's study reverses this trend, identifying styles of historical remembrance in which music participates. Flinn concentrates on those styles that urge listeners to interact with difference--including that embodied in Germany's difficult history--rather than to "master" or "get past" it. Flinn breaks new ground by considering contemporary reception frameworks of the New German Cinema, a generation after its end. She discusses transnational, cultural, and historical contexts as well as the sexual, ethnic, national, and historical diversity of audiences. Through detailed case studies, she shows how music helps filmgoers engage with a range of historical subjects and experiences. Each chapter of The New German Cinema examines a particular stylistic strategy, assessing music's role in each. The study also examines queer strategies like kitsch and camp and explores the movement's charged construction of human bodies on which issues of ruination, survival, memory, and pleasure are played out.

    Content: This book is designed to enable non-native English speakers to write science research for publication in English. It can also be used by English speakers and is a practical, user-friendly book intended as a fast, do-it-yourself guide for those whose English language proficiency is above intermediate. The approach is based on material developed from teaching graduate students at Imperial College London and has been extensively piloted. The book guides the reader through the process of writing science research and will also help with writing a Master’s or Doctoral thesis in English. Science writing is much easier than it looks because the structure and language are conventional. The aim of this book is to help the reader discover a template or model for science research writing and then to provide the grammar and vocabulary tools needed to operate that model. There are five units: Introduction, Methodology, Results, Discussion/Conclusion and Abstract. The reader develops a model for each section of the research article through sample texts and exercises; this is followed by a Grammar and Writing Skills section designed to respond to frequently-asked questions as well as a Vocabulary list including examples of how the words and phrases are to be used.
