Abstract:
Based on a psychoanalytic and phenomenological understanding of shame, the article examines shame and shaming in the context of Social Media, e.g. cybermobbing and digital shaming. Increasing discourse on shame as well as shame related everyday myths are seen as symptoms for changing relations between self and other in the process of digitalization and social change. Apart from psychoanalytic considerations digital shaming is discussed in the cultural context of shaming sanctions within the law, and related to the concept of Promethean shame.
