"Blind für die Geschichte" nannte vor einigen Jahren der britische Journalist Robert Fisk die Araber, sobald es um deren Verhältnis zum Nationalsozialismus und um dessen Verbrechen an den Juden gehe. Aber "blind für die Geschichte" zu sein hieße auch, die Frage nach den zeitgenössischen arabischen Perspektiven auf diese Zeit nicht zu stellen. Die Versatzstücke der gemeinsamen Geschichte von Arabern und Juden mit dem Nationalsozialismus werden zudem heute auf beiden Seiten massiv im politischen Konflikt instrumentalisiert.

Im vorliegenden Band äußert sich ein Kreis von Fachleuten in insgesamt zehn Beiträgen erstmals umfassend zur Begegnung der arabischen Welt mit dem Nationalsozialismus. Dazu zählen auch die vergessenen Geschichten nordafrikanischer Kolonialsoldaten, die im Kampf gegen Nazideutschland als "Kanonenfutter" dienten, die zum Teil kritischen arabischen Bewertungen des Nationalsozialismus oder die Schicksale von Arabern und Muslimen, die in deutschen Konzentrations- und Kriegsgefangenenlagern ums Leben gekommen sind.
