Abstract:
This article first presents a synthetic explanation of the visual and textual exogenesis of Les Visiteurs du soir (directed by Marcel Carné in 1942), and then offers a genetic analysis of Jacques Prévert's scenario draft for this feature film. We will study : the medium, the way the space in the page is handled, the filling-in of the pre-established frame, the use of graphic instruments, the crossing out, auto-evaluation and instructions. This working sheet is compared to other drafts done by the scriptwriter (in particular the drafts of Une partie de campagne, de Sylvie et le fantôme and of the sketch «Agnès Bernauer» of Amours célèbres), making it possible to adopt a transversal approach and to highlight Prévert's singular creative film method. This paper is illustrated with reproductions of these drafts, from which certain details are extracted and analyzed.
