In addition to his descriptions of a successful organizer's qualities and roles, his insider view of activism, and his thorough knowledge of participants and parties through the years, gives this book its value. Inhalt: In recent years, communal housing projects - as a form of life between community and individuality - have become increasingly relevant in Germany. The social relationships among residents, however, have hardly been researched to date. For the two dimensions of friendship and social support, Christine Philippsen examines the degree of social integration of residents into their residential group and the mechanisms of integration. A common housing project is characterized by the coexistence of a fixed group of 15 to 30 households on average. Important motives for communal living are mutual help in everyday life, prevention of loneliness, experiencing solidarity and joint leisure activities. The two main target groups are older people and households with underage children. The empirical results are based on a separate written survey of residents in five multi-generation housing projects - they provide answers to various questions, including socio-politically relevant questions, such as the generation of social capital for different groups of people such as the elderly, people living alone or families with minor children. Gemeinschaftliche Wohnprojekte – als eine zwischen Gemeinschaft und Individualität angesiedelte Wohn- und Lebensform – haben in den letzten Jahren in Deutschland zunehmend an Relevanz gewonnen. Die sozialen Beziehungen der Bewohner untereinander sind jedoch bislang kaum erforscht. Für die zwei Dimensionen Freundschaft und soziale Unterstützung untersucht Christine Philippsen den Grad der sozialen Integration der Bewohner in ihre Wohngruppe sowie die Mechanismen der Einbindung. Gekennzeichnet ist ein gemeinschaftliches Wohnprojekt durch das Zusammenleben einer festen Gruppe von durchschnittlich 15 bis 30 Haushalten. Wichtige Motive für das gemeinschaftliche Wohnen sind gegenseitige Hilfe im Alltag, Verhinderung von Einsamkeit, Erleben von Verbundenheit sowie gemeinsame Freizeitgestaltung. Die zwei Hauptzielgruppen sind ältere Menschen und Haushalte mit minderjährigen Kindern. Die empirischen Ergebnisse basieren auf einer eigenen schriftlichen Befragung von Bewohnern in fünf Mehrgenerationenwohnprojekten – sie geben Antworten auf verschiedene, auch sozialpolitisch relevante Fragen, etwa hinsichtlich der Generierung sozialen Kapitals für verschiedene Personengruppen wie Ältere, Alleinlebende oder Familien mit minderjährigen Kindern.

Inhalt: Insgesamt legt Philippsen ein Buch vor, das nicht nur für InteressentInnen an Wohnprojekten von Bedeutung sein dürfte, da es gesellschaftliche und sozialpolitische Impulse für eine gelingende Bewältigung des Sozialen Wandels bietet. Inhalt: "With the recent explosion of activity and discussion surrounding comics, it seems timely to examine how we might think about the multiple ways in which comics are read and consumed. Graphic Encounters moves beyond seeing the reading of comics as a debased or simplified word-based literacy. Dale Jacobs argues compellingly that we should consider comics as multimodal texts in which meaning is created through linguistic, visual, audio, gestural, and spatial realms in order to achieve effects and meanings that would not be possible in either a strictly print or strictly visual text. Jacobs advances two key ideas: one, that reading comics involves a complex, multimodal literacy and, two, that by studying how comics are used to sponsor multimodal literacy, we can engage more deeply with the ways students encounter and use these and other multimodal texts. Looking at the history of how comics have been used (by churches, schools, and libraries among others) will help us, as literacy teachers, best use that knowledge within our curricula, even as we act as sponsors ourselves"--
