Bislang ungenutzte Flächen werden in großem Umfang für Wohnen, Wirtschaft, Handel, Verkehr und Freizeit in Anspruch genommen, während Zahl und Ausmaß der brach liegenden Flächen in den Städten zunehmen. Vor diesem Hintergrund werden im Rahmen einer deutsch-amerikanischen Forschungskooperation in sechs internationalen Fachtagungen Verfahrensweisen beim Umgang mit Brachflächen im Rahmen des Flächenrecyclings ("Brownfield Redevelopment") diskutiert. Der Band dokumentiert den 2. Workshop, der sich mit wichtigen Aspekten des Projektmanagements und des Marketings befasste. Flächenrecycling als Teilstrategie zur Revitalisierung der Städte erfordert ein effizientes und zugleich Kosten sparendes Projektmanagement, wobei technische, planerische, finanzielle und organisatorische Aspekte eng miteinander zu verknüpfen sind. Insbesondere die Schaffung einer geeigneten privaten, öffentlichen oder halböffentlichen Struktur hat wesentlichen Einfluss auf die Gewinnung von Investoren und die Unterstützung von Flächenrecyclingprojekten seitens der kommunalen Entscheider sowie der auf verschiedenen Ebenen zu beteiligenden Genehmigungsbehörden. Gelungene Marketingstrategien schließlich sind der Schlüssel für die erfolgreiche Akquise von ansiedlungswilligen Unternehmen. Erfolgreiches Marketing vermag die Besonderheiten alter Flächen und ihrer Geschichte herauszustellen und auf dieser Basis konkrete Visionen für neue Nutzungen zu vermitteln.
