West-Berlin 1968–1989: eine Epoche der Umbrüche und Veränderungen – das spannendste Kapitel Berliner Stadtgeschichte. Der Kontrast könnte nicht größer sein: West-Berlin, das funkelnde Schaufenster des Westens, umgeben von einer Mauer, die in die Jahre gekommen ist. Und ausgerechnet auf dieser Insel ruft man 1968 nach Revolution. Eine Zeit des Aufbruchs für die Studenten – eine Zeit der Verunsicherung für die bürgerliche Mittelschicht. Unmerklich wandelt sich das Klima in der Stadt: war die Stimmung beim Staatsbesuch von US-Präsident Nixon noch mehr als gereizt, bescheren die Siebziger Jahre der Teilstadt eine neue Lässigkeit. Zu sehen sind auf dieser DVD die legendären GoGos des Eden Clubs, ein Blick hinter die Kulissen von Fernsehaufzeichnungen mit den „Les Humphries Singers“ und Dunja Rajter, Marika Rökk und Günter Pfitzmann auf Berliner Bühnen und Spaß auf neuen Abenteuerspielplätzen. Spektakulär: die Staatsbesuche von US-Präsident Jimmy Carter und dem französischen Staatspräsidenten Valéry Giscard d’Estaing – hautnah aufgenommen. Spannend: Busfahrten für Westdeutsche hinüber nach Ost-Berlin. Disconächte in den Achtzigern und schließlich Berlins Jubelfest im November 1989 – in bislang unbekannten Aufnahmen des Mauerfalls in der Bernauer Straße.
