Content: This major original reference work includes over one hundred specially commissioned articles on the lives and writings of women who made significant contributions to economics. It sheds new light on the rich, but too often neglected, heritage of women's analysis of economic issues and participation in the discipline of economics. In addition to those who wrote in English, some notable Danish, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Russian and Swedish women economists are included. This book will transform widely-held views about the past role of women in economics, and will stimulate further research in this exciting but underdeveloped field. It is dedicated to the memory of Michèle Pujol, a pioneer in the field

Series Statement: Cultural Interactions: Studies in the Relationship between the Arts 40
Content: Central to human life and experience, habitation forms a context for enquiry within many disciplines. This collection brings together perspectives on human habitation in the fields of anthropology, archaeology, social history, material culture, literature, art and design, and architecture. Significant shared themes are the physical and social structuring of space, practice and agency, consumption and gender, and permanence and impermanence. Topics range from archaeological artefacts to architectural concepts, from Romano-British consumption to the 1950s Playboy apartment, from historical elite habitation to present-day homelessness, from dwelling «on the move» to the crisis of household dissolution, and from interior design to installation art. Not only is this volume a rich resource of varied aspects and contexts of habitation, it also provides compelling examples of the potential for interdisciplinary conversations around significant shared themes.

Content: The Assiniboine are a Siouan-speaking people closely related linguistically to the Sioux and Stoney. Contemporary Assiniboine live on two reservations in northern Montana and on four reserves in southern Saskatchewan. The Assinboine file consists of 20 documents, all in English, with a time span ranging from approximately 1640 to the early twentieth century. The major focus of the file, however, is on the period from the mid-nineteenth century to about 1940. The most detailed works for a general understanding of the traditional ethnography of the Assiniboine will be found in Denig, Lowie, Dusenberry, and Kennedy. Other major topics of special note in this file are: the history of the Assinboine fur trade in Ray, the Bear and Horse cults in Ewers, the Cypress Hill Massacre in Allen and Goldring, social change and acculturation in Rodnick, Assiniboine and Cree relationships in Sharrock, and Sioux-Assiniboine-Stoney linguistic relationships in Parks

Content: Scope and content: "While Amundsen, Franklin, and Peary were first to explore the furthest geographical reaches of the Polar North, Knud Rasmussen was the first to explore its culture and its soul. Part Danish, part Inuit, the famed explorer anthropologist made an epic three year journey by dog sled from Greenland to Alaska recording not only the landscapes but also the songs and stories of the Eskimo people. In the ranks of the great explorer/writers who opened hitherto impenetrable cultures to the West--T.E. Lawrence in the Mideast, Wilfred Thesiger among the Bedouin, Richard Burton in Africa or among the Sufi--Rasmussen stars not only for his physical courage and ability to assimilate into the life of indigenous peoples, but also for the beauty of his writing. Across Arctic America and his collection of Eskimo songs and stories are classics of Polar literature. There has been no full-scale biography of Rasmussen in English, and Stephen Bown's splendidly received life of Roald Amundsen makes him the perfect writer to record the great journeys and fascinating life of the Inuit from Greenland through the Northwest Passage, to Alaska"

    Series Statement: Urban Studies
Content: In the past years, the transiency of European city-making and dwelling has become increasingly hard to disregard. This urban flux calls for a methodological rethinking for those professionals, social and natural scientists, artists, and activists, with an interest in the processes of remaking and reclaiming urban space. With a practical and empirical emphasis, this anthology brings forth a variety of perspectives on urban appropriation strategies, their relation to public space-making, and their implications for future city development, exploring how ideas and practices of appropriation inform and relate to cultural narratives, politico-historical occasions as well as socio-ecological expressions.
