Biographical note: Peter Braun lehrt Literatur- und Medienwissenschaft an der Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena und leitet das dortige Schreibzentrum. Einer seiner Schwerpunkte ist das dokumentarische Erzählen in Literatur und Film. Bernd Stiegler ist Professor für Literatur mit Schwerpunkt 20. Jahrhundert im medialen Kontext an der Universität Konstanz. Sein besonderes Interesse gilt der Geschichte und Theorie der Fotografie. - Main description: Kann die katastrophische Welt des 20. Jahrhunderts und der Gegenwart noch in Lebensgeschichten erzählt werden? Die Literatur hat hierauf mit neuen Formen und scharfen Reflexionen geantwortet. Sie hat das »emphatische Ich« der humanistischen Tradition dekonstruiert, zerstückelt, verräumlicht oder mehrfach belichtet. Auch haben Metabiographien und Dokufiktionen zu einem performativen Verständnis von Lebensgeschichten geführt. Die Beiträge in diesem Band eröffnen einen Querschnitt durch die europäische Literatur des 20. und frühen 21. Jahrhunderts.
