Rezension: Li Zehou, Professor für Philosophie in Peking, führt den Leser durch die verschiedenen Epochen der chinesischen Kulturgeschichte von der vorgeschichtlichen Zeit bis zum Beginn unseres Jahrhunderts. Totem- und Ahnenkult, Bildhauerei, Architektur, Malerei, Kalligraphie, Literatur, Philosophie, Religion und Musik des mittlerweile 7000 Jahre alten chinesischen Volkes finden im Detail wie in großen Zusammenhängen ihre Beachtung, wobei das Hauptaugenmerk auf der Art und Weise liegt, wie die Vorstellung der Chinesen von Schönheit und Ästhetik sich in ihrer Kultur und in ihren Kunstwerken ausdrückt. Äußerst interessant, da fächerübergreifend, hervorragend übersetzt, mit bibliographischen Angaben versehen. Der Band sollte neben H. Schreiber (BA 8/90) und C. Hibbert (BA 3/90) in möglichst vielen Büchereien eingestellt werden, da zu diesem Thema nur wenig Literatur vorhanden ist. (Christiane Lehmann)
