Content: A major bestseller in Italy, this is a heroic young man's impassioned account of the decline of Naples under the rule of the Camorra, an organized crime network with a large international reach and stakes in construction, high fashion, illicit drugs, and toxic-waste disposal. Known by insiders as "the System," the Camorra affects cities and villages along the Neapolitan coast, and is the deciding factor in why Campania, for instance, has the highest murder rate in all of Europe and why cancer levels there have skyrocketed in recent years. Author Saviano, who saw his first murder at age 14, worked under cover to investigate the Camorra's control of Chinese factories contracted to manufacture fashion goods, legally and illegally, for distribution around the world, and relates how the abusive handling of toxic waste is causing devastating pollution not only for Naples but also China and Somalia--Publisher's description.

Content: This volume explores the complex phenomenon of exegetical work produced from the fifteenth to the seventeenth century on Petrarch's vernacular poetry, that is, both his Rerum vulgarium fragmenta (Canzoniere) and his Triumphi (Trionfi). This body of exegesis takes the form of commentaries, annotations, academic lectures, and other forms of para-textual and critical intervention, from biographies and glossaries to marginal notes and illustrative programmes.0The volume gathers together ten contributions from Anglo-American, Italian and continental scholarship. It combines rigorous analyses of specific commentators and lecturers (the author of the 'Portilia' commentary, Silvano da Venafro, Giovan Battista Gelli) alongside contributions devoted to interpretative strategies in both commentaries and academic lectures. It also explores the reception in Italy, France and England of the major Petrarch commentary by Alessandro Vellutello, as well as forms of reception and interpretation in paratexts and images. The volume is divided into three sections: 'Philology, Materiality and Paratexts'; 'Exegetical Strategies in Commentaries and Lessons'; and 'Visual Exegesis and Reception in France and England'

Hosted by the University of Exeter in September 2013, the conference had its origins in the research project entitled Painting for the Salon? The French State, Artists and Academy, 1830-1852, funded in 2010-2012 by the UK's Arts and Humanities Research Council, and its purpose was to situate findings of this research within the wider framework of the Salon's nineteenth-century history. In this collection of twenty-three papers, fourteen in English, nine in French, established and new scholars of French art history examine the national and international artistic, political and cultural dimensions of the most important regular exhibition of contemporary art in the nineteenth-century world , «Colloquium proceedings sometimes do not amount to much. This particular collective volume, however, represents a major contribution to scholarship.» (Robert Lethbridge, Journal of European Studies 45(4) 2015)

Content: The question of gender has been ignored sometimes or mystified in historical literary analyses. This book focuses on contemporary Catalan literature and adopts a gender perspective that is difficult to overlook today. The very limited number of female authors in earlier times – whose numbers are increasing as more and more names of female writers consigned to oblivion by the historical canon are being unearthed – provided the justification for their discrimination. This volume contributes to the analysis of those past views on gender (all gender perspectives) as they appear through the lense of contemporary Catalan literature. In the social roles they adopt, female characters act, express, and assert themselves in the language they use and are based on the society of which they form part.

Content: The study examines medieval legal text traditions in the South of France and the Iberian peninsula. It is able to demonstrate that one of the major impulses in the evolution of an elaborate code for written Romance-language texts in the 12th and 13th centuries was the renaissance of Roman law originating in Bologna. The demonstration takes place from two perspectives, one diachronic, the other synchronic. The diachronic approach inquires into the way legal discourse traditions, characterized here in textual, linguistic, and content terms, find their way into certain areas and languages. The synchronic approach identifies co-existing traditions and examines their relationship to one another.

Drittel 15.
Content: This is the first scholarly edition of the »Anathomie«, which is the first tractate of Gui de Chauliac's (1300-1368) »Grande Chirurgie« in the French translation found in manuscript H 184 of Montpellier's Bibliothèque de la Faculté de Médecine dating from the 2nd third of the 15th century. It includes an introduction, a lexicographic study of the text, and a glossary.
