Der Autor begreift die Digitalisierung als umfassende mediale Veränderung, die auf einer Ebene mit der Erfindung des Buchdrucks zu sehen ist. Die Transformationen in Entscheidungsprozessen und Denkformen werden prägnant und profund interpretiert: in ihrer Wirkung auf den Einzelnen und die Gesellschaft. Medien- und technikphilosophische Ansätze von Heidegger über Gotthard Günther und Vilém Flusser werden bildungstheoretisch und politisch-philosophisch reflektiert und weitergeführt. Auf diese Weise kristallisiert sich das ausgewogene Plädoyer für eine kluge, von Urteilskraft getragene Nutzung des Digitalen heraus. Digitalisierung kann zu einem neuen weltbürgerlichen Bewusstsein beitragen. Die wesentlichen Probleme des 21. Jahrhunderts (wie Veränderungen der Sicherheitsstruktur und des Migrationsverhaltens) sind aber nicht durch Digitalisierung allein zu bewältigen. Deshalb plädiert Seubert für eine parallele Kultivierung analoger Fähigkeiten und Diskurse.
    Inhalt: Seubert’s book analyses the digital revolution by transcending euphoria and fears of the apocalypse. He conceives digitalisation as an all-encompassing media change on a similar level to the invention of printing books and thus incisively and profoundly interprets the transformations in decision-making processes and ways of thinking it has caused in terms of their effect on both individuals and society. From the perspectives of both education theory and political philosophy, he also reflects on and further develops the philosophical approaches to technology and the media adopted by Heidegger, Gotthard Günther and Vilém Flusser. In doing so, he develops a pragmatic call for the sensible and discerning use of digital media. Digitalisation can contribute to a new form of cosmopolitan awareness, but the essential problems of the 21st century (such as changes to our security structure and in migration behaviour) cannot be overcome using digitalisation alone, which is why Seubert also calls for analogue skills and discourse to be cultivated at the same time.

    Inhalt: The impetus for the conference that was the basis for this volume emanated from the influence of two brilliant minds-Egon Sohmen and Adam Klug, who both died at an early age, leaving their families and the professions of economics and economic history with major voids. In the course of research on the origins of Open Economy Macroeconomics, the significant contributions of Egon Sohmen came to the fore. After correspondence with some of those involved in the early development of the Open Economy Macromodel, we turned to Adam Klug for his views on the matter-as he had dealt with the history of intertemporal trade models in his Ph. D. thesis. And it was Adam who suggested the idea of a conference bringing together economists and economic historians. At this point we want to acknowledge the very generous grant from the Egon Sohmen Foundation and the active participation of Dr. Helmut Sohmen and Mrs. Renee Sohmen at the conference. We also want to thank Prof. Sir Aaron Klug, Nobel Laureate, and the Klug family for their support and the financial contribution of the Adam Klug Memorial Lecture Fund at Ben Gurion University.
